**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley 242**

**Chapter 242: The Choice**

Edric’s voice was calm but laced with a hint of urgency as he added, “We could just get rid of it,” his words hanging in the air after his conversation with the doctor.

At this moment, Emma was still in the early stages of her pregnancy. The reality of her situation was daunting; if she truly didn’t want to have this child, the option to remove it was available to her. The procedure would be straightforward, painless, and without any risk to her well-being.

Corvin and Marcus exchanged glances, both of them nodding in agreement.

“Yeah,” Corvin said softly, his tone almost a whisper, “Emma, if you don’t want this cub, then we won’t keep it.” His focus was solely on her; the presence of a child didn’t sway his feelings one way or another.

Marcus, with a frown etched on his face, muttered, “I don’t want a child either.” The thought of raising a child felt like an insurmountable burden. What if the child inherited his reckless nature? The mere idea filled him with dread.

In that moment, Emma began to piece together why the three of them had been so quick to dismiss the idea of a child earlier. She had clearly stated that she wasn’t ready for the responsibilities of motherhood. What if she ended up with a little wolf, wild and untamed like Marcus, who spent his days lounging around? Or perhaps a sweet, innocent kitten like Corvin, who would need constant care? Or, even worse, a cold and calculating little snake like Edric, who would always keep her at arm’s length?

As these thoughts swirled in her mind, she paused to consider. Maybe… just maybe, it wouldn’t be so terrible after all.

“I did say I didn’t want a baby so soon,” she finally said, her voice steady, “but since it’s already here… we’ll keep it.”

As she spoke, her hand instinctively moved to rest on her still-flat stomach. Was there really a baby growing inside her? The thought sent a shiver of uncertainty down her spine.

“Keep… it?”

The shock on Edric, Corvin, and Marcus’s faces was palpable.

“Yes,” she affirmed, her conviction unwavering. “We’re keeping it.”

Turning her gaze toward Edric, she continued with determination, “Edric, can you ask the doctor if I can be discharged? And what precautions do I need to take now that I’m pregnant? How often should I come in for check-ups? And how long before we’ll know whose child it is?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Edric sprang to his feet. “I’ll go ask right now,” he replied, his concern for her well-being overshadowing even the matter of the child.

What should she avoid? How could they ensure she remained healthy? He was determined to gather every detail directly from the doctor. Perhaps hiring a private physician would be wise—someone dedicated to her care, someone who could monitor her constantly.

Once Edric had left, Corvin hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his features. “Emma… you really want to keep it?”

She nodded, her resolve firm. “You don’t?”

Corvin shook his head vigorously. “No, it’s not that. I just… I’m scared. If it is my baby, I… I might not know how to take care of them.” The thought of nurturing a child filled him with a sense of panic. Other people’s babies always seemed adorable, but the responsibility of raising one himself was terrifying.
