Chapter 333 Not an Invitation

Emma walked to Edric and the others. I can vouch for him. Lucien didn’t cheat. I was the one who drew the lots myself.”

The others could no longer bring themselves to doubt Lucien after that, especially not when Emma was backing him up and not after he’d sworn an oath to the Beast God.

Still, Corvin was far from pleased.

He had assumed that his luck would turn if Emma were the one drawing the lots. Unfortunately, he still ended up last on the list.

Emma watched as Corvin and Edric trudged away with their heads hung low in disappointment. As they left, her gaze fell on Drake, who was standing by the staircase.

He was leaning against the railing with his head slightly lowered. As a result, his long black hair obscured most of his face, preventing anyone from getting a peek at his expression.

Drake had also wanted to participate, but Lucien had turned him down. He had reminded Drake that he wasn’t Emma’s mate, at least not yet. Still, that was enough to bar him from participating.

Thus, he had no choice but to watch everything unfold from the sidelines.

As Corvin and the others left, Drake also turned to leave. However, Emma suddenly called out to him, stopping him short.

Drake, wait.

Was she calling for him?

He froze midstep. As that realization hit him, he hastily spun on his heel and looked at Emma.

Was she going to ask him to stay?

Was she going to allow him to spend the night with her and Lucien?

He felt his heart stop before it stuttered to life with hope as she closed the distance between them. He got it so bad that even his breath had started to pick up speed.

Emma had no idea what he was thinking as she stood before him.

In Drake’s eyes, it was as if the world had stopped spinning right then, and all he could see was her.

His breathing came to a stop, as if worried that one wrong breath would cause her to disappear from his line of sight. His Adam’s apple bobbed nervously as his eyes rounded. He was behaving just like a hopeful puppy, and nothing like a Drakonid.

Emma, did you need something?

Do you want me to stay? Was what he didn’t ask, and couldn’t bear to ask.

Emma merely looked at him calmly as she replied, I haven’t given you mental comfort for a couple of days now. Let’s go to your room, and I’ll soothe you right now.

Emma had been giving him mental comfort ever since they’d left the Thalassian Palace. Hence, his condition had improved greatly since then, and he no longer needed daily

treatment.

Soothe?

Her words hit him like a bucket of icecold water, causing his fledgling hope to scatter into a million pieces.

She wasn’t calling out for him to invite him to join her in bed. Instead, she just wanted to perform a routine mental comfort for him.

The way the light in his eyes dimmed so quickly was so obvious that Emma naturally noticed it.

She frowned slightly at the look on his face. What’s wrong, Drake? Is it inconvenient for you to receive mental comfort today?

It wasn’t a big deal if he was. She could always drop by tomorrow.

Still, Emma wasn’t an idiot. She knew what he was feeling, but she couldn’t just invite him to stay with her for the night. That was why she was playing the fool.

That’s not it!Drake blurted, waving his hands before she could take it the wrong way.

He was already miserable enough that he couldn’t stay with her. So there was no way in hell he was going to send her away now.

Emma, I do need your help. Let’s go.”

Then, he hastily led the way, worried that she might change her mind if he dallied any longer.

The others only returned to their rooms after seeing Emma going into Drake’s chambers.

Lucien was patiently waiting for Emma upstairs.

In the meantime, Emma could barely stop herself from gaping at the sheer opulence that was Drake’s room.

Drakonids really were filthy rich.

He had used a great deal of storage and space stones to expand his quarters, transforming the room into something similar to his chambers back in the Thalassian Palace.

Emma!Drake called out to her when he saw that she wasn’t moving. He’d already made himself comfortable on his bed while she was busy taking in the room.

He wanted her closer. It would be even better if she could just stay here.

Coming,” she said as she approached him and sat down by the bedside.

He shifted the second she did, carefully leaning against the headboard. He’d also shifted his legs into his tail, which he used to gently coil around her waist as he pulled her into his arms.
