Chapter 334 A Begging Drakonid
Emma noticed tiny spiderweb–like cracks across Drake’s mental wall.
If she had to hazard a guess, she figured those cracks would only begin to mend once Drake’s new mental wall was fully stabilized.
He’d probably turn to normal once that happened.
It didn’t take her long to wrap things up.
So, she removed her hand from him. She was about to stand when Drake’s tail suddenly tightened around her waist.
She didn’t see it coming, so she lost her balance and fell against his chest.
“Drake, what are you doing?” she snapped impatiently as she turned to glare at the culprit.
“Emma…” he whined softly, his voice thick with guilt and hurt. He sounded like a wounded puppy who was too meek to argue, but was reluctant to leave its owner’s side.
“I… I wasn’t going to do anything,” he whispered weakly, his arms tightening around her. “I just… wanted to hold you for a little longer.”
Before she could refuse, he started pleading, “Emma, just let me hold you a little longer. I swear I won’t take up too much of your time. Please?”
Emma stiffened when she caught the shaky quality of his tone.
Her brain screamed at her to shove him aside.
Drake had felt her go tense in his arms. His voice took on an edge of desperation as he begged, “Emma, please. Just give me this. I swear I’ll behave.”
The once proud Drake Smith had now been reduced to begging for scraps.
Emma turned to meet his red–rimmed eyes. She could still remember how those eyes had been in the past. They used to command awe and fear. Yet, she could no longer see even the slightest hint of self–assuredness and haughtiness in them.
Now, they were like pools of desperate hope and raw fear. He was afraid he’d be pushed away.
He buried his face into the crook of her neck like a lost cub seeking refuge. His voice sounded like they were on the verge of tears. “Emma, I know I’m no one to you right now. Lucien was

right. I don’t have the right to participate, and I don’t… I don’t deserve to stay by your side.”
His voice grew hoarser with each word that fell from his lips. It was as if they weren’t words but sandpaper being dragged out of his throat. They were steeped with utter self–loathing and
bitterness.
“I’ve forgotten many things, but I do remember one thing. I remember that I can’t live without you. My chest feels hollow when you aren’t with me. It’s so cold, so empty.”
His arms tightened around her further. It was as if he was trying to fuse them together to fill that empty space in his heart.
His tail, which had been mostly still after she snapped at him, started to tighten around her waist. Yet, there was nothing domineering about it. Instead, she could feel the tremor running down his tail, the cool touch of his scales pressing against her clothes in his unease.
“I’m not going to do anything, I swear,” he rasped.
After a while, he said, “I just envy Lucien and the others. I’m envious that they could be with you without worry. I’m jealous that they all have the right to stay by your side. Yet, I can only watch you from a distance.”
He whispered tremulously, “Emma, I’m scared… so scared that you’ll cast me aside.”
Emma returned to her room after giving Drake mental comfort.
However, she was in for a sight the second she opened the door.
There Lucien was, languishing on her bed.
Her eyes widened in shock as she drank in the sight before her.
He was reclining on one elbow, propping his head lazily with that hand. He looked dangerously seductive despite the seemingly lazy posture.
Still, his pose wasn’t what fazed her. It was what he was wearing.
He had wrapped himself in a black silk robe. Usually, it wouldn’t be a problem. It was just that… this black robe was so thin and loose against his frame that he might as well have been wearing a thin sheet of gauze.
The sheer material clung just enough to outline his sculpted muscles, while the plunging deep V–neckline exposed nearly everything, as it only stopped right before she could cry indecency.
To make matters worse, the hem might as well not exist. It was so short that there wasn’t much
