Lucien didn’t even glance at the bands.

He fixed Kael with a mocking look. “Mr. Auris, who do you think you’re trying to insult?

“Didn’t you hear Lieutenant Sullivan say Lily tried to kill him?

“Lieutenant Sullivan has been by my side since I joined the military. He’s like a brother to me.”

Kael listened, silently fuming.

People said Calum was ruthless, but Lucien wasn’t much better.

He could tell Lucien was just pushing for more compensation.

Kael glanced down, meeting Dahlia’s pleading gaze.

Gritting his teeth, he threw over two more storage bands.

“You must promise that once you take Ms. Yates, her life or death has nothing to do with us. She’s your responsibility alone.

“That way, I can answer to Marshal Calum and the higher–ups.”
