Storms of the Heart novel Chapter 12

A wave of panic crashed over Julian, heavy and suffocating, striking him harder than any bullet ever had.

Before he could even figure out where that pain came from, he was already storming out of the Shepherd residence and jumping back into his jeep, only to freeze with his hands on the wheel.

He had no idea where to go.

Julian used every connection he had to recall the morning newspapers and stop the news from spreading.

But Wayne was clearly determined to cut Julian off from Trina completely. He rallied every contact he had in the business world, plastering the divorce news everywhere. By noon, everyone in Flarora knew.

For the first time, Julian realized there were things he couldn't control.

"General Hauser..." The guard's voice was cautious as he reported in. "Ms. Blake has been asking for you. She seems emotionally unstable."

Julian pressed his fingers into his temples, trying to rub away the pounding behind his eyes. Exhaustion rolled over him like a wave he couldn't quite stay ahead of.

In the end, he still went to the hospital.

Sienna looked as pale as ever when he walked into the hospital room. The moment she saw him, her eyes lit up with excitement. She tore the blanket aside and threw herself into his arms, crying so hard that she could barely speak.

"Julian! The newspaper said you're divorced. And you got the medicine. Does that mean we can finally be together? No one can keep us apart anymore, right?"

Her body was warm and soft against him, carrying the faint scent of medicine and perfume.

Julian went rigid. The relief he had thought he would feel never came. Instead, the moment Sienna hugged him, his mind betrayed him with the image of Trina's bright smile and the resolute way she had walked away.

His first instinct wasn't to pull Sienna closer but to push her away.

He lifted his hand, but in the end, it dropped weakly to his side.

"You need to focus on getting better first," he said, his voice coming out rough and strangely distant.

Julian started treating Sienna with the miracle drug. Under his careful care, her health improved day by day.

Sienna held onto his hand whenever she could, her face still pale but brightened with hope as she talked about the future.

"Julian, when I'm well, let's leave Flarora, alright? We'll find somewhere quiet. Just the two of us..."

Julian listened, but his gaze kept drifting to the window.

Where was Trina now? She was alone in a country where she couldn't even speak the language. With her quick temper, was she getting herself into trouble? Was anyone there to clean up the mess for her? Would she cry?

"Julian?" Sienna's anxious voice cut through his thoughts. "What are you thinking about? Is it work?"

He pulled himself back and met her fragile eyes full of suspicion. A flicker of irritation rose within him, but he pushed it down as soon as he felt it.
