Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1048

Years ago, he ruined hundreds of lives in the name of science. This wasn’t some accident in the lab, either. He used real people, alive and terrified, for his experiments. To get the results he wanted, he dissected them while they were still breathing. His cruelty was so shocking that the entire medical world turned its back on him. He was guilty of kidnapping, illegal imprisonment, and his victims ranged from children as young as five to adults in their fifties, all taken from different countries. His obsession with research had pushed him way past the point of no return.

When the truth finally came out, it was no surprise that he became a wanted man across multiple countries. Then, just like that, Professor Keri disappeared. Years went by and no one heard a single thing about him. Some people whispered that he’d been assassinated. Others insisted he was secretly locked away in prison. Nobody really knew the truth.

No one expected him to pop up again after all these years.

The institute didn’t waste any time. The day they got the new data, they called an emergency meeting. Jarvis Peters and Dr. Williams Sr. broke down their findings: this new drug could completely wipe out a person’s memory—and then rebuild it however the creator wanted. Even scarier, some of the ingredients seemed to boost brain activity, almost like it could unlock hidden potential in the mind. Basically, it could rewire a person’s brain.

Abner Young’s face was grim as he listened. “Keri is truly insane. Is he trying to change how the human brain works, just to create these so-called geniuses?”

Dr. Williams Sr. was quiet for a moment, then nodded. “It’s possible. He talked about ideas like that in his old research. The reason he started breaking the law was because he wanted to mess with human genes and body structure, to see how far he could push human potential. Those experiments ended horribly. Some people died. Some were left crippled forever. Others became vegetables. The ones who survived still had severe organ damage and spent their lives hooked up to medication, barely holding on…”

Just thinking about Professor Keri’s involvement made Dr. Williams Sr. break out in a cold sweat. As a fellow scientist, he knew better than anyone just how twisted Keri’s experiments were—and how terrifying his inventions could be.

Abner frowned. “The institute is going to take this very seriously. We need to find a way to neutralize this drug, but we also need to watch out for Keri himself. If his drug is already on the black market, he’s probably trying to spread it as far as possible. There’s a good chance he’s keeping tabs on every single buyer.”

Dr. Williams Sr. nodded. “Someone like him would never pass up the chance to run more experiments. He’s definitely tracking how the drug works in real life.”
