Dennis Williams didn’t hesitate. His voice was low and serious as he said, “Tell Mr. Byron to start from scratch at the hospital. I want every bit of security footage from right before and after Camila disappeared.”
“Understood.” Aaron caught his meaning right away and got to work, calling Mr. Byron’s team.
At the same time, their investigation into the limping old man who’d bumped into Camila at the hospital was finally getting somewhere.
A message from Mr. Byron popped up on Dennis’s phone. “He’s not a patient. He snuck in dressed up like one.”
That wasn’t even the worst of it. Mr. Byron had also figured out who the man really was.
RedFox. One of the three leaders of the Red Spider organization.
RedFox was the only man among the three, short in stature because of a medical issue, but hands down the best at disguises. He could play any role, and on jobs, he often dressed as a woman to throw off his targets.
Dennis’s face turned stormy as he read the message. Things were getting serious.
Meanwhile, somewhere else, Camila Davis started to wake up.
She barely moved her head and a sharp pain shot through her neck. Everything came rushing back. The hospital. Someone knocking her out.
Where was she now?
She waited for the pain to dull, then took a look around. No windows. The air was thick and stale, like she was underground.
Oddly enough, the place was fancy, almost glamorous. Not far from her, a bunch of rough-looking men lounged around, playing cards. In the middle of a sofa sat a man she thought she recognized.
Wasn’t that the limping old man from the hospital?
The fear she’d felt right before passing out came roaring back. Her heart pounded, but she forced herself to breathe and think.
Was this about the car chase the other night? Were these people after her?
Her mind was still foggy when RedFox noticed she was awake.
