Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1096

“Besides, you’re helping us catch the real culprit, right? So, for now, we’re basically on the same team.”

“You’re right.”

RedFox wasn’t as relieved as he should have been, even knowing his leg could be saved. He just looked kind of lost.

Camila noticed right away. “You seem down. Is it because of BlackScorpion and SilverWolf?”

RedFox didn’t bother to deny it.

She sat down next to him, pulling out her medical supplies. “Were you three really close?” she asked, genuine curiosity in her voice. This whole mess had started because of RedFox, but from what Camila saw, BlackScorpion and SilverWolf never truly blamed him.

“I mean, it didn’t look like they were mad at you that day.”

RedFox nodded, almost like he’d been waiting for someone to talk to. “The boss and SilverWolf have always treated me well. Maybe SilverWolf’s right. Maybe I am kind of clueless. None of this was supposed to have anything to do with Red Spider. Those two were partners for years. They got ambushed one time, and I just happened to be there. We were in the same line of work, so I risked everything to save them. Got hurt pretty badly too. After that, they learned about my past, took me in, and I agreed to join them. I’ve messed up a bunch over the years, but they’ve always treated me like a real brother. They put up with all my mistakes. After my adoptive mom passed away, they were the only people who really cared about me.”

To RedFox, those two weren’t just partners. They were family.

Camila thought about it for a moment and realized she understood. Maybe those two tough guys, always living on the edge, actually found themselves caring about someone who was a little naive. Judging by how BlackScorpion and SilverWolf treated RedFox, it was obvious they saw him as a little brother.
