Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 112

Camila Davis nodded firmly. “I didn’t take a single penny from him!”

“Well, then he’s got no excuse not to go through with it,” Melissa George said, trying to comfort her daughter. “If he wants to be with that other woman so badly, why hang on to you? Just let him go.”

“Don’t get worked up yet,” Melissa added, patting Camila’s hand. “Wait till he comes home tonight, then sit down and talk things out.”

Camila just nodded, trying to stay calm.

But this time, Jordan Smith didn’t come home at all—for three whole days.

At first, Camila thought about texting him, but knowing Jordan, the more she pushed, the more he’d dig in his heels. Maybe it was better to give him some space, let things cool off. Who knew? Maybe he’d just show up one day with the divorce papers in hand.

After all, there was no way he’d want to keep Sandra Taylor hanging around in the background forever.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis had originally planned to stick around town until Camila’s divorce was finalized. But with Jordan nowhere in sight and their vacation days running out, they had no choice but to head home early.

Before they left, both parents were relieved at the changes they’d seen in Lillian.

“We’re honestly not so worried about Lillian anymore,” Melissa said, a gentle smile on her face. “Mr. Adams from her school says some days she seems so normal, you’d never guess she’s on the spectrum. She’s improving every single day. Your dad and I can see it, too.”

Camila nodded, grateful.

Letting Nora Lewis go was the best decision she’d ever made for Lillian. She didn’t even want to imagine how things might have turned out if she hadn’t.

Camila felt the warmth of her mother’s touch, and her throat tightened with emotion. She couldn’t even imagine how much her parents must have scrimped and saved to put this money aside.

She gently pushed the card back again. “Mom, Dad, I’m not refusing to be polite. I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me. But I’m okay. I mean it—I have money.”

Jerry frowned. “How could you? Jordan threw you out of The Smith Group. Where would you get money?”

“Dad, I’m serious,” Camila said, shaking her head. “I left The Smith Group, but I went back to my old profession. Remember ‘Miracle’? Walter Wilson and I are working together again… I didn’t want to say anything before, but we’re opening up a new lab. Walter even sent a few clients my way for some private consultations, and honestly, the fees are pretty generous.”

Just to prove it, Camila pulled out her phone and opened her banking app, showing them her latest balance.
