Besides, with her two brothers around, Cynthia would always have her family to rely on. Your mother and I have made up our minds. Those two children will come home and be recognized as part of this family. If you refuse to accept them, then go ahead and divorce Nicholas. Ines is more than qualified to take your place. Honestly, she can help Nicholas with the business much more than you ever could. She and her children have had it rough living abroad all these years.
Hazel Wood could barely breathe, she was so furious that no one was siding with her. They were even defending a mistress. Her vision blurred, she fell straight back and fainted.
“Mom!”
Cynthia Lee panicked, terrified that her mother might actually die from the shock.
Even Nicholas, despite everything, couldn’t ignore the woman he’d been married to for years. He immediately called the driver and had her rushed to the hospital.
The Lee family was thrown into complete chaos.
Meanwhile, at the Lee Group, the company’s stock price was in free fall as an online scandal snowballed. At first, Nicholas Lee didn’t think much of it. He figured a little bad press about his personal life could be handled with a few calls to the right people. After all, what successful businessman didn’t have a few rumors following him around? He told his team to deal with the headlines and focused on bringing his two illegitimate children back as soon as possible.
But by that afternoon, the talk online hadn’t died down at all. If anything, it had gotten even worse. News outlets were now reporting on a whole list of scandals connected to the Lee Group.
There was talk of bribery, shady deals in public bidding projects, tax evasion, fake accounts. Money meant for the Lee Group’s charity projects had supposedly ended up in the pockets of his mistress and their children overseas, with barely any going to the people who actually needed it.
Then an old tragedy resurfaced—a serious accident from years back during one of the Lee Group’s property developments.
Turns out, the Lee Group had used subpar materials. Three workers died in an on-site accident. To avoid a public outcry, the company promised each family three million in compensation, to be paid in installments. But after all these years, each family had only received a little over a hundred thousand. The workers’ families tried again and again to take the Lees to court, but their cases were always suppressed. There was nowhere to turn. On top of that, the Lee family went out of their way to make things even harder for them, costing them jobs and making their lives miserable. In the end, the families had to give up on ever seeing justice.
That wasn’t all. Every time Nicholas Lee went on a business trip, local managers had to arrange escorts for him. He was nothing like the person he pretended to be in public.
And then there were the rumors about an overseas club he helped found. The girls were handpicked to his tastes. They came from all over, even underage girls, some from war-torn countries. The details were too much for most people to stomach.
When all of this broke out online, people lost it.
