Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 121

She still hadn’t figured out why someone else got to cut the birthday cake. The confusion was written all over her little face.

Jordan Smith didn’t spare her a single glance. He just kept slicing up the cake, handing out big frosted pieces to his parents, and even to Sandra Taylor.

Sandra, of course, was practically glowing with smugness, though she wore that fake “I’m so understanding” smile as she walked over to Camila Davis. “Camila, honey, today’s not just Lillian’s birthday—it’s the day you became a mom. You should have the first slice.”

Camila heard the mockery buried in Sandra’s eyes. The insult hit her like a slap.

Parading the mistress around was bad enough, but this—humiliating Lillian, her daughter, in front of everyone?

Jordan Smith—how could he?

How dare he!

“Sarah, would you hold Lillian for me?” Camila’s voice shook, but she forced herself to keep it steady.

Sarah Brown looked just as furious, and she clearly guessed what Camila was about to do. She scooped up little Lillian and stepped back.

Camila’s anger boiled over. She glared at Jordan. “If you never meant to actually celebrate Lillian’s birthday, then none of us need this cake. No one’s eating it!”

She strode over, grabbed the dessert cart, and shoved it with all her strength.

There was a loud crash—the towering four-tier cake hit the floor, frosting and fondant exploding everywhere. The Smith family, Sandra and her son included, were splattered in buttercream.

The guests gasped. No one could believe anyone would cause a scene at a Smith family party. Eyes widened, mouths fell open.

The Smiths themselves looked like they’d been struck by lightning.

Barbara Jones shrieked, “Camila Davis, have you lost your mind?!”

Camila’s eyes flashed dangerously. Maybe she did look crazy. Maybe she looked like a woman unhinged. But she didn’t care.

Jordan looked like he’d swallowed a mouthful of glass. He’d thought his behavior tonight would teach Camila a lesson—but instead, she’d blown up the whole party and had the nerve to say she wanted out.

Camila met his eyes, her gaze cold and final.

If they were going to tear things apart, she’d do it thoroughly. If he could humiliate Lillian, she didn’t owe him any dignity.

The guests could only gape, barely believing the drama unfolding.

Mrs. Smith wanted to divorce Mr. Smith? This was the Smith family, for God’s sake—people would kill for that kind of wealth and status, and she was tossing it away?

No one was happier than Sandra Taylor, who could barely hide her glee. She hadn’t expected Camila to announce her divorce in front of everyone. After this, there’d be no turning back.
