Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 159

Especially that tall, elegant figure—his posture was regal, every movement exuding effortless grace. From this angle, you could really appreciate his perfectly sculpted profile.

He looked like he’d stepped right out of a Renaissance marble statue.

Not quite human, honestly—more like an angel who wandered down from heaven.

“Man, talk about easy on the eyes,” Aaron whispered beside her, unable to hold back a quiet sigh. He was struck by a strange, fleeting thought.

Mr. Williams and the little kid together like this... Why did it look so much like a father and daughter?

He smirked to himself. Wouldn’t be surprised if he turned into one of those doting girl-dads.

Camila Davis didn’t overthink it. She just wanted to savor the moment, not break the peaceful spell.

Of course, life never let her off the hook for long.

Her phone started buzzing.

It was Jordan Smith calling.

A chill settled over Camila’s face. She narrowed her eyes and hung up without a word.

But Jordan was nothing if not persistent. A text popped up on her screen: “I checked with the police about Nora Lewis. I honestly didn’t know about her fake credentials. Let me see Lillian—I want to apologize.”

Camila scoffed.

What good was an apology now?

If he’d cared even a little about Lillian, he would’ve vetted the therapist he hired. But he didn’t.

Now he wanted to act clueless, as if that excused everything?

Camila only hated herself for ever trusting him in the first place. If she’d been more careful, Lillian wouldn’t have suffered like this.

Her fingers flew over the screen as she typed back, cold as ice: “Don’t bother with your fake apologies. The best thing you can do for Lillian is to stay away from her.”

On the other end, Jordan read her response. His face darkened, jaw clenched tight.

Later that evening, at the police station.

Sandra Taylor had just wrapped up a crisis with The Smith Group and rushed over to check on Nora Lewis.

As soon as Sandra walked in, Nora looked at her pleadingly. “Sandra, you have to help me. I can’t go to jail. When I treated Lillian, I was only—”

Sandra cut her off, nerves tight. “Nora, I get that you’re panicking, but this is a police station. You need to think carefully about what you say and what you don’t. Stick to the facts about the sessions, answer their questions honestly, but don’t drag anyone else in. Understand?”

Did that mean Sandra was the one who’d sent Nora to treat Lillian in the first place? Had they planned this together from the start, just to sabotage Lillian?

The realization made Camila’s hands go cold.

If her suspicions were right, she’d make sure Sandra paid for it, too. Sandra belonged behind bars just as much as Nora.

As Camila fumed, the police updated her on the case. “Nora Lewis hasn’t confessed to everything. She admitted to faking her degree, but insists she didn’t prescribe the wrong medication or lead your daughter astray psychologically. It’s hard to prove psychological harm after the fact. Technically, we can charge her for practicing medicine without a license, based on her own session notes.”

Camila tensed. “What’s the penalty for that?”

The officer shrugged. “She’ll probably get a fine and maybe two weeks in jail.”

Camila’s brow furrowed.

That was it? After everything, Nora might just get a slap on the wrist? It felt like a cruel joke.

She had no faith Jordan would push for real justice—if anything, he’d try to sweep it under the rug, especially since Sandra was involved.

After weighing her options, Camila made up her mind. She called Dennis Williams, voice trembling slightly as she explained what was happening.

Dennis listened, steady and reassuring. “Don’t worry. I just finished my last class. I’ll bring Lillian and come down right away. Let me handle this.”
