Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 213

She glanced away, a little hesitant to meet his eyes.

Dennis Williams didn’t seem to mind at all. He just nodded, then turned his attention to the mischievous young boy beside them. In a firm, no-nonsense tone, he said, “There are people here, you know. Didn’t you see us? If you want to play, move further away. That way, no one gets hurt.”

The boy, clearly startled, shrank back a little under Dennis’s commanding presence. He quickly stammered, “Oh—okay! I’m really sorry, ma’am. I didn’t mean to!”

Camila Davis saw his genuine apology and decided not to make a fuss. “It’s fine, I forgive you. But next time, maybe play somewhere with fewer people, or at the park. It’s not just kids here—there are a lot of folks walking around.”

“Yeah, yeah, we will. Sorry again!”

The boy apologized a couple more times before hurrying off with his friends.

Once they were gone, Dennis said, “Let’s head back. Lillian just learned a new drawing technique—she could use some more practice.”

Camila had been worried the little incident would make things awkward between them. But Dennis changed the subject so naturally, she couldn’t help but feel relieved.

Mr. Williams really was the picture of kindness and class! He always made sure everyone felt comfortable, no matter what.

She quickly caught up to him with Lillian in tow.

Aaron, who had seen the whole thing, was still a bit dazed.

Did he just witness Mr. Williams hug someone for the first time in his life? Sure, it was only to save someone, but still… Why did it feel kind of…romantic?

Must be the lack of sleep messing with his mind!

For the rest of the day, Dennis devoted himself to helping Lillian practice her art skills.

They even had lunch right at the cozy café, sharing grilled cheese sandwiches and hot chocolate between drawing lessons.

Camila blinked, a little amused by his logic.

But then again, Mr. Williams was clearly raised with impeccable manners. It made sense he’d be so particular.

“Alright, let me check with my parents,” she said.

Dennis nodded.

Camila called her parents back and explained the situation.

Melissa and Jerry Davis were surprised by Dennis’s thoughtfulness, but they honestly appreciated it. Their approval of him only grew. It wasn’t often you met someone so capable and yet so polite—exactly the sort of young man parents hoped their kids would look up to.

They agreed right away, happy to accept the invitation.
