Sandra Taylor was practically glued to Jordan Smith, her hunger for him written all over her face.
But to her shock, Jordan didn’t react. Not even a twitch.
She shot him a suspicious look, only to find the man fast asleep, eyes closed, head resting back against the couch.
Sandra could hardly believe it. Was he really passed out at a time like this?
The mood was ruined. All her anticipation fizzled out, replaced with pure annoyance. She didn’t even feel like taking care of him anymore.
With a huff, she called for the butler to come deal with Jordan.
The butler took one look at her “not my problem” expression and kept his thoughts to himself. He simply called out, “Mary, come give me a hand, would you?”
A young maid hurried in to help.
…
Meanwhile, although Dennis Williams had put a pause on Lillian’s treatment, Camila Davis still arranged to meet him over the weekend.
Helen Adams’ therapy was coming to an end. Today was the final test.
Camila had already asked the Adams family to bring Helen’s boyfriend over. There was only one way to find out if Helen was really cured—seeing how she reacted to being close to him.
Before they began, Mr. and Mrs. Adams were anxious, practically wringing their hands. “Are you sure there won’t be any… surprises?” Mrs. Adams whispered. “Maybe we should do another round of treatment, just to be safe?”
Camila smiled gently, understanding their concern. “From what I’ve seen, her symptoms seem to be completely gone. Let’s see how the test goes.”
Though the couple trusted Camila’s expertise, they still couldn’t help but worry.
Dennis chimed in, “You can trust Ms. Davis. She’s the best—you’re in good hands.”
His words felt like the strongest vote of confidence Camila could get.
She shot Dennis a grateful smile, then turned to the young couple. “Alright, let’s get started.”
Helen and her boyfriend, Wayne Carter, hadn’t seen each other in almost a month. Now, finally reunited, they were both visibly excited.
“Just take it slow,” Camila instructed from the side. “Start with holding hands… then try a hug. If you don’t feel any discomfort, that means the old stress response is truly gone.”
Helen nodded obediently, following the instructions step by step.
It was a kind of relationship she’d never had herself.
Back then, she’d rushed headlong into marriage with Jordan Smith, skipping all the sweet parts, only to end up in a cold, lonely partnership.
Looking back, she realized how foolish she’d been. But at least now, she’d finally put a stop to it—before it was too late.
While Camila was lost in thought, Helen was still swooning over Wayne’s proposal.
But she hadn’t forgotten where they were. Her parents were in the room, after all.
She shot them a nervous glance. The Adamses had never really approved of Wayne.
But to her surprise, both Mr. and Mrs. Adams were smiling—genuinely smiling.
After everything that had happened, they realized that compared to risking their daughter’s wellbeing, having a boyfriend who didn’t check every box on their list wasn’t a big deal at all.
Mr. Adams cleared his throat and addressed the couple, “You two can keep seeing each other—I won’t stand in your way. But marriage is a big step. If, after you graduate from college, you’re both still sure, then we’ll get the families together to talk about it.”
Helen’s eyes widened in delight, and Wayne squeezed her hand. For the first time, everyone in the room was smiling.
