Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 245

“Congrats, Mr. Smith. Now that you’re officially single, you can go wild. Best wishes to you and your new flame!”

Jordan Smith’s face darkened, clearly doubting Sarah Brown’s words.

Camila Davis caught on and spoke up calmly, “Relax, Jordan. No matter what happens between us, you’re still Lillian’s father. Unlike you, I actually care about her feelings. I’m not about to let some messy scandal online traumatize her in the future.”

Jordan paused for a few seconds, finally convinced. He knew how much Camila cared about their daughter.

And in that moment, the reality of the divorce finally hit him. This woman he’d never truly loved was really leaving—and for some reason, he didn’t feel as relieved or happy as he’d expected. He cast one last complicated glance at Camila before walking away.

Once he was gone, Camila’s nerves finally let go. Her legs felt weak and she swayed a little.

“Whoa, you okay?” Sarah quickly steadied her.

Camila shook her head, smiling tiredly. “I’m fine. I was so stressed last night I didn’t sleep a wink. Now that it’s all over, it’s like a huge weight just dropped off my shoulders.”

She’d thought she might feel something more—maybe sadness, maybe nostalgia. But in the end, there was nothing. Turns out, even someone you once loved deeply can become a stranger, barely causing a ripple in your heart.

Sarah pulled her in for a big hug, grinning. “First day of freedom! How about we go out and celebrate tonight? My treat—let’s grab a drink or two.”

“Absolutely! Here’s to the new Ms. Davis!”

Finally, she was free from the Smith family’s shadow.

After leaving the county clerk’s office, the two friends tidied up the leftover confetti from the little poppers they’d brought. Feeling lighter than air, they headed home to share the news with her parents.

“Any idea who it was?” she mused.

Sarah frowned thoughtfully, then shrugged. “No clue. But whoever it was, they’re a real guardian angel!”

Camila smiled to herself. Angel, maybe. But ‘all-powerful’? She wasn’t so sure.

She tried texting the mystery helper to say thank you, but got no response.

After a few glasses of wine, Sarah loosened up, her words getting more candid. “You know… do you think it might’ve been Mr. Williams? He played a big part in all of this. If he hadn’t booked us that resort, we never would’ve caught Jordan cheating—let alone gotten the divorce so smoothly.”

She leaned in, voice dropping to a playful whisper. “Honestly, Camila, ever since you met him, everything’s turned around. Lillian started talking again—her autism improved so much. And you… you’ve gotten so much stronger. To him, maybe it was nothing, just a little help. But to you? He’s your lucky star. No, scratch that—he’s the guardian angel for both you and Lillian!”
