Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 253

Nothing in this world... ever happens by sheer coincidence!

So, The Smith Group stole the lab’s formula, whipped up their own version of the drug, and beat them to market?

Camila Davis felt her face go ashen in an instant.

She and her team had poured months of work into this medication, and now, out of nowhere, it was being unveiled at someone else’s press conference.

Her anger was blinding, but beneath it, panic bubbled up.

The Smith Group had clearly been trying to launch a new product too, and now, by beating her team to the punch, all their effort was down the drain.

Walter Wilson had obviously heard the news too.

He pulled some strings, got his hands on The Smith Group’s new drug, and brought it straight to her. “Maybe it’s just a coincidence,” he suggested. “Their product might not be the same as ours. Take it apart and see.”

Camila nodded, clinging to a sliver of hope, and took the sample into the lab.

But the analysis results hit her like a punch to the gut.

She looked pale as a ghost when she turned to Walter. “It’s... it’s our drug,” she admitted, her voice barely a whisper.

Walter’s eyes darkened, and the easy-going look he usually wore was replaced by something almost dangerous. “Someone leaked our trade secrets?”

Camila nodded, guilt and shame knotting in her chest.

The only way the research data could have gotten out was if someone from their team had leaked it.

“I’m sorry, Walter. I was as careful as I could be, but someone still found a way in. If we can’t fix this, I’ll take full responsibility for whatever we lose.”

Back when she’d been hiring, she’d weeded out every candidate The Smith Group had tried to plant.

She’d trusted everyone left on her team.

But someone had slipped through the cracks.

Who could it be???

Walter cut her off, his voice tight with anger. “Don’t apologize. Right now, we need to find the traitor.”

His anger was palpable.

Stealing from The Wilson Group? Someone was playing with fire.

Meanwhile, The Smith Group’s launch party was in full swing.

Jordan Smith, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, made his entrance to a room buzzing with excitement.

The new drug was a hit already, and even Jordan hadn’t expected Sandra Taylor to pull off such a coup.

The second he appeared, the press turned their cameras on him. “Mr. Smith, this partnership with The Taylor Group has been a huge success—what do you have to say about it?”

“We’ve heard you and Mrs. Smith are divorced. Is there something going on between you and Ms. Taylor? Can you share any details?”

“If you and Ms. Taylor got together, that’d be a real power couple. Any plans to tie the knot?”

Everyone knew these reporters were handpicked by Sandra Taylor.

Hardly anyone outside their inner circle knew about Jordan’s divorce—unless they’d been tipped off.

Sandra was obviously taking this chance to air the news.

Across town, at the military base:

Dennis Williams had just wrapped up a meeting and was on his way to the Harrisburg airport.

He was flying back to Cabinda tonight. His flight was booked, and he was already cutting it close—less than ninety minutes till takeoff.

He slid into the backseat and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Let’s go,” he told his driver, Aaron.

Aaron hesitated. “Mr. Williams, I think something’s going on with Ms. Davis.”

Dennis looked up, frowning. “What happened?”

Aaron didn’t know about the stolen formula, so he just mentioned the gossip.

“Her ex-husband is really something. Instead of just announcing the new drug, he picked now to publicize their divorce. And as if that’s not enough, he’s got a PR team spinning stories, making it look like he and that mistress are perfect together...

There’s a lot of ugly stuff going around about Ms. Davis—people saying she comes from nothing, questioning her character, even accusing her of cheating and sleeping around. It’s all over the internet.

Last time, when you gave her that jade pendant, you said she seemed a bit down, right?

With all this bad press... you think she’s okay?”

Dennis scrolled through the news on his phone, brows knitting tighter with every headline.

After a moment, he dialed Camila’s number, too worried to leave it alone.

“Hello...?”

Her voice came through, breathless and weak.
