Camila Davis didn’t look well. More than anything, she was confused.
It was pretty clear that Mrs. Reed and Mr. Reed had no idea she was supposed to be there to help.
Hadn’t Mr. Williams told them she was coming?
Camila frowned, pulling out her phone to get to the bottom of it.
But Shirley Reed eyed her suspiciously, and leaned toward Sandra Taylor. “Ms. Taylor, who is she, exactly? She doesn’t seem too friendly with you.”
Sandra shrugged, not bothering to hide the truth. “She’s… well, a rival, I suppose. Her research center is about to launch a new medicine too. I bet she heard Mr. Reed was coming and is trying to get in on this.”
Shirley’s brow furrowed. “So it’s a business rivalry? Still, that’s no excuse for trashing your work the minute she walks in! To question someone’s hard work to their face, that’s just classless. And she’s even wishing ill on Mr. Williams!”
She shot Camila a look of open disdain. “You need to leave, right now. The Smith Group’s medicine is more than enough for my husband.”
Camila’s expression hardened, but she spoke evenly. “Mrs. Reed, I’m not here to curse Mr. Reed, or to compete with anyone. I was asked to come and help your husband. I honestly have no idea what went wrong with the communication—let me check.”
Mrs. Reed and Mr. Reed hesitated. She sounded so genuine… Could she be telling the truth?
Her tone turned icy. “You don’t need to check with anyone. Get out of my house, now. We don’t need your help.”
Camila’s patience finally snapped. Her voice was cold. “Mrs. Reed, this is about your husband’s life. Are you really going to be this reckless? How long have you even known Sandra Taylor? And you believe her so easily? Do you even know that the Smith Group’s medicine wasn’t developed by her?”
She turned to Sandra, her gaze sharp. “She’s a thief. She doesn’t even understand the basic formula or the data behind it. You’re willing to risk your husband’s life on a gamble like that?”
For just a second, Sandra’s confident mask slipped. She hadn’t expected Camila to call her out so directly. But the panic lasted only a moment—she was careful, and Camila had no proof.
Sandra’s voice turned sharp. “Camila, that’s enough! You’ll say anything to get your way. I’ve been civil because of our history, but this is low—even for you!”
