After she made up her mind, Camila tossed her phone aside and curled up against the headboard. Somehow, this felt a little more comfortable.
As she waited, waves of fatigue and pain washed over her, leaving her mind foggy and half-asleep.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed before she heard footsteps approaching again.
Blinking awake, she saw Dennis come in from the hallway, a chilly gust trailing after him. He was carrying a tray.
On it sat a thermos, a hot water bottle, some heat patches, and a black tote bag.
Camila’s ears went hot in an instant.
He… really knows what’s up!
Dennis seemed to pick up on her embarrassment. He tried to keep his voice casual, “There’s some chicken soup in here, and ginger tea with honey. You should eat a little something first, then sip the tea. Stick the heat patch on your stomach, and keep the hot water bottle close. I heard it helps you feel a bit better.”
Camila’s cheeks were blazing now. She managed a shy, “Thanks…”
Dennis waved it off. “No problem. I’ll let you rest. Just call if you need anything.”
He set the tray on the nightstand and his tall figure slipped quietly out the door.
Long after he’d left, Camila’s face was still burning, but a warm feeling had settled in her chest.
Mr. Williams… is really thoughtful and polite.
He always knows exactly how to handle things, never oversteps, always so considerate.
She’d never been cared for like this before.
Thanks to Dennis’ preparations, that night Camila made it through her cramps with less discomfort than usual, and she actually slept well for a change.
When she woke the next morning, it was already nine. She felt a lot more like herself.
Dennis, with nothing to do there, went off to the training grounds.
Steven Edwards was already there, overseeing drills. When he spotted Dennis, his usually stern face broke into a teasing grin.
“Heard you were up half the night over at the medical wing, bugging the nurses for supplies?”
Dennis shot him a frosty look. “Don’t you have work to do?”
Steven chuckled. “Hey, it’s not my fault. Word gets around fast—everyone in the mess hall was talking about it this morning.”
Dennis frowned, clearly not loving the idea of being the subject of gossip.
Steven clapped him on the shoulder. “Come on, you can’t blame them. You’re like the golden boy around here—the legendary Mr. Williams. Everyone looks up to you. Then suddenly, you’re down here among the mortals.”
He laughed, genuinely amused. “Honestly, I’ve known you for years, but I’ve never seen you act like that. Back on missions, if a female teammate got hurt, you’d just slap the bandage on and call it a day. Never thought I’d see you being so… sensitive.”
