He walked right over and asked, “What’s going on?”
Dennis Williams got straight to the point, quickly explaining the situation and what Camila Davis needed.
Then he instructed, “I’ll leave the application paperwork to you.”
Steven Edwards listened without any complaints.
Camila Davis was a top-notch doctor. The higher-ups had already made it clear that she deserved special treatment.
And with Dennis Williams standing up for her like this—well, who in the entire Special Response Unit would dare cross someone he backed?
Steven grinned and agreed without hesitation. “No problem. Just bring your team in. I’ll sort out the paperwork later. If Ms. Davis needs anything from the med bay’s files, she’s free to look through them.”
Camila had been worried the process would be a bureaucratic nightmare, or that she’d get stonewalled altogether.
She never expected things to go so smoothly!
She was so thrilled, she forgot she was still holding onto Dennis Williams’s arm. She kept thanking Steven, bubbling with gratitude. “Thank you so much for making this work, Mr. Edwards.”
Steven just waved her off. “Don’t thank me. Thank Dennis. He almost never speaks up for anyone—if I didn’t help, he’d make my life hell.”
He said it with a teasing smile.
Dennis ignored him, just giving Steven a cool glance before turning to Camila. “Come on. I’ll take you to the archive room.”
Camila was all too eager, quickly agreeing.
Only then did she realize—she was still clutching Dennis’s arm. Flustered, she let go, pretending it was nothing, though her ears burned bright red.
Dennis caught the look and his dark eyes grew even deeper.
The rest of the afternoon, Camila was lost in the med bay’s archives.
Dennis spotted her and frowned, voice stern. “Get down. Let Aaron or the security guys handle that.”
Camila waved him off. “It’s fine. The ladder’s sturdy—I’ve gone up and down a bunch the past few days—”
She didn’t even finish her sentence before her foot slipped.
Camila gasped in shock.
Oh, come on—did I really jinx myself?
It happened so fast. She lost her balance, and being halfway up the ladder, she was about to take a nasty tumble.
“Watch out!” Aaron blurted instinctively.
The security guards nearby rushed over, trying to help—
