The last person anyone expected to snap was Sandra Taylor.
She was completely stunned by the slap Camila Davis had just landed on her cheek.
Right there, in front of everyone at the party, Camila Davis actually dared to hit her!
Camila Davis dared! Unbelievable!
Sandra’s face went red with anger, her eyes practically bulging with fury. She was ready to slap Camila right back, but one look from Camila made her hesitate.
“Sandra,” Camila said coldly, “my mentor has every right to decide who he treats. He’s not some miracle worker you can just summon whenever you want. He’s getting older, his energy has limits. Jordan’s injury—nerve damage from that car accident—needs years of rehab, not a quick fix. Are you really suggesting my mentor spends years nursing him back to health? Who do you think you are?
I’m telling you now—stop guilt-tripping and trash-talking. If I hear one more disrespectful word about him, I’ll make sure you regret it.”
“Camila!” Sandra hissed, jaw clenched in rage.
By now, the rest of the guests had started to chime in, shaking their heads at Sandra.
“This is ridiculous. You can’t insult someone just because they won’t help you. That’s not how you ask for medical help!”
“Seriously, show some respect for your elders.”
“Does Sandra Taylor have any manners? She called Dr. Morris ‘an old fossil’—he’s a legend in medicine!”
“It’s laughable. She pretends to be close to Dr. Morris, but then turns around and insults his protégé right in front of him.”
“Shameless. Trying to wreck someone’s marriage, then running to her mentor to complain…”
“Camila did the right thing, honestly. If it were me, I’d have slapped her harder!”
“Jordan Smith must be blind, picking a woman like her and tossing aside Camila, who actually cared about him.”
“Did Camila just say Jordan’s nerve damage will take years to heal? She spent all these years looking after him, and this is how he repaid her.”
“Camila really wasted her time on him. He never deserved her.”
“What a pair—both so shameless…”
“Thank God Camila saw through it and got out while she could.”
If you try it again, a slap will be the least of your worries.”
She turned to Sandra, her eyes full of open contempt, as if Sandra were no more than a piece of gum stuck to her shoe. Sandra felt like she was about to explode.
Especially when she saw Jordan staring at Camila—really staring at her. Sandra’s jealousy flared, burning hotter by the second.
Why did things always turn out like this?
She was supposed to be the star tonight, the one everyone admired.
But every time she tried to show her worth, it blew up in her face. Especially tonight, with Camila’s true status revealed, Sandra couldn’t stand it.
Camila’s parents were just two average schoolteachers. She only got ahead because she caught the eye of Walter Wilson, made some waves in the industry—hardly impressive, in Sandra’s mind.
If only she’d had a little more luck, hadn’t been held back by her own family’s issues, she could’ve been Mrs. Smith by now. All she needed was to hold on a bit longer, and everything would fall into place.
Or so she kept telling herself.
