On the other end of the livestream, Bruce’s face suddenly drained of color.
At that moment, his stream abruptly cut to black. Across the screen, a single line appeared: [This stream has violated platform rules and has been permanently banned.]
Outside the Harrisburg Grand Hotel, in the backseat of a sleek black Mercedes, Aaron was giving Dennis Williams an update.
“Mr. Williams, the network’s already started taking down all the rumors from tonight. Our team’s gathering evidence, too. We’ve kept records of every account that’s been spreading lies or stirring the pot. The police are tracking them as we speak, especially that troublemaking reporter. Also, we’ve compiled a list of all the good things the med school’s done and posted it online.”
Dennis Williams, for once, seemed satisfied. He nodded. “Good. Make sure this gets contained. I don’t want a single headline about this tomorrow.”
“Yes, sir,” Aaron replied, though his back was slick with nervous sweat. They’d caught wind of the livestream scandal before anyone else. Mr. Williams had just arrived at the hotel, and suddenly all hell broke loose. Someone had dared to—
Just as Dennis Williams predicted, it took a while before Walter Wilson got wind of the chaos online.
Earlier, while Mr. Morris was up on stage giving his speech, everyone’s attention was focused up front. Aiden was anxious but couldn’t risk interrupting. The minute Mr. Morris stepped down, Aiden hurried over.
Walter Wilson was shocked. A reporter had managed to sneak in and start a livestream, right under their noses.
“Don’t alert the guests just yet. Let’s find the streaming equipment first,” he ordered, jaw tight.
“On it.”
They quietly slipped out of the ballroom, grabbing a few hotel staff to help with the search.
Though Bruce’s stream had been taken down and he’d already been detained, his equipment was still somewhere in the hotel.
It didn’t take long for Walter and his team to find the culprit: a camera, still running, hidden deep in a potted fern. Unless you were looking for it, you’d never notice it.
As they dismantled the hidden camera, a few guests nearby started to notice something was off.
“What’s going on? Why’s there a camera in there?”
“And who hides it in a plant?”
“Was that part of the party?”
“I have no idea…”
Most people hadn’t checked their phones all night—the party had a strict ‘silent mode’ rule—so no one in the ballroom had a clue about the online storm brewing.
As whispers started to spread, Walter Wilson hurried to the stage and grabbed the microphone. “I’m terribly sorry, everyone. It seems we overlooked something important tonight. Someone managed to sneak in and hide a camera in the ballroom. Not long ago, they started a livestream online—”
