Mr. Morris knew exactly who they were, and he was well aware that none of them would ever joke about something like this. That knowledge finally let him relax for real.
Jerry Davis and his wife, Melissa George, both let out a sigh of relief.
“That’s a relief, honestly.”
They’d been worried that tonight’s incident would drag everyone into a huge mess!
Sarah Brown, listening from the side, felt her nerves ease too.
Just then, she noticed Camila Davis coming back into the room. She sidled over, lowered her voice, and whispered, “Did I guess right? Was this really Mr. Williams’ doing?”
Camila didn’t deny it. She just nodded. “Yeah, it was him.”
Sarah’s face broke into a wide grin, and she didn’t hold back her praise. “Wow! Mr. Williams really outdid himself this time! Camila, how are you not falling for the guy?”
Camila rolled her eyes and gave Sarah a playful thump on the head. “Stop talking nonsense! People will get the wrong idea. Anyway, I’ve got things to take care of—see you.”
Watching Camila practically scurry away, Sarah couldn’t help but chuckle. If Camila’s face wasn’t so red, Sarah might have actually believed her denial!
Truthfully, Camila still felt uneasy about what happened tonight. She decided to stick with Mr. Morris, helping him greet guests and offer drinks—a way of apologizing for the trouble, even if it wasn’t really necessary.
But it turned out, her worries were for nothing.
Nobody actually blamed Mr. Morris.
Before Camila could even say a word, the guests were already reassuring her. “Ms. Davis, you must’ve been scared tonight. We heard that troublemaker reporter’s been arrested already.”
“You can’t blame yourself or Mr. Morris. There are always people with bad intentions outside.”
“Right, don’t let something like this ruin a great night. We’re here to celebrate!”
“I’d like to propose a toast to Ms. Davis—happy birthday! Here’s to staying forever young.”
Camila was sincerely grateful and raised her glass in return.
As the party went on, a few officials came by to take photos and collect statements, just to make sure everything was above board. Once they were satisfied there were no issues, they left.
Gradually, the birthday party returned to its warm, cheerful atmosphere.
While the festivities resumed, the buzz online seemed to die down—at least on the surface. But the drama was far from over.
Some eagle-eyed internet sleuths noticed something was off. They tried to discuss it in new posts, but every time they did, their threads vanished almost instantly.
They tried using code words and initials, keeping things as vague as possible. But even then, their posts disappeared, their chat groups got shut down…
Finally, an official city news account posted an update, laying the rumors to rest.
[The Harrisburg authorities immediately investigated the rumors about tonight’s birthday party. It has been confirmed there was no illegal exchange of money as some online claimed.
