Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 488

Aaron hesitated for a moment before finally voicing the question that had been nagging at him. “Mr. Williams, what if… what if it’s true?”

Dennis Williams shot him a cool look. “Aaron, I know how to tell if someone’s good or bad. Besides, do you really think the people at the top are idiots?”

He leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. “If someone really had that kind of skeleton in their closet, if they’d actually hurt someone—do you think they’d still get all those awards and honors? Only gullible folks online get swept up in this kind of drama.”

Aaron nodded sheepishly, realizing how silly he sounded. “Sorry, sir. Guess I wasn’t thinking straight. I’ll get right on it.”

On the other side of town, Walter Wilson caught wind of the situation too. He quickly mobilized the Wilson Group’s PR team, working overtime to bury the viral posts and cool things off.

An hour later, the online uproar against Mr. Morris had mostly fizzled out. Only a few stubborn trolls kept harping on the story.

“All his statements are just to clear his own name! He still hasn’t explained what happened to his protégé. Is he hiding something?”

“Yeah, and that statement from Johns Hopkins was so vague. They didn’t even clarify whether Mr. Morris stole someone’s research!”

“How did she really die? And why was she pushed out of the medical field?”

But all that noise barely made a ripple. The controversy was dying down fast.

Sandra Taylor, who’d been glued to her phone all day, noticed the outrage was fading—and she couldn’t let that happen. She grabbed her cell and called Raymond Mitchell. “Mr. Mitchell, do you have any proof that Mr. Morris forced your friend to take her own life?”

Raymond’s voice was heavy with regret. “I don’t have any hard evidence. It all happened so suddenly…”

He paused, then added, “Wait, actually—she was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for emergency treatment. They should have her death certificate. It would say she died by suicide.”

Sandra’s eyes lit up. She was desperate to take Morris and his mentor, Dr. Davis, down a peg. She trusted Raymond completely—never even questioned his story.

After hanging up, Sandra logged into the same anonymous account she’d used that morning and posted a new message:

“You want proof? Go ask St. Mary’s Hospital. She was treated there, and the death certificate will show it was suicide…”
