“Honestly, being apart, living in different cities—it’s not the end of the world,” Camila said, shrugging as she took a sip of her coffee.
“I mean, even couples who are crazy in love need their own space sometimes, right? Besides, Mr. Williams and I are just good friends…at best.”
Sarah Brown’s eyes went wide. “Not a big deal? Are you kidding me?” she exclaimed, nearly dropping her bagel. “Long-distance kills relationships, Cam! People lose all their spark! You know how many couples break up because of it? I know you guys aren’t official or anything, but you could at least care a little more!”
Sarah looked genuinely appalled. But Camila just shook her head, a small smile tugging at her lips.
“Sarah, when Jordan Smith and I were married, we lived together under the same roof for years. Saw each other every morning, every night. Guess what? Didn’t make him love me any more. If anything, we drifted further apart.”
Sarah frowned, but Camila went on, her voice calm. “Look, I get your point. Long-distance isn’t easy. But it doesn’t automatically doom everyone. Some people can make it work—even thrive. It all comes down to the person.”
She swirled her tea. “Jordan never really loved me, but he managed to pine after Sandra Taylor for years—even when they were on different continents half the time. Say what you want about my marriage, but you can’t say Jordan couldn’t handle distance. If anything, he’s the poster child for it.”
Even after their divorce, Camila thought, Jordan’s feelings for Sandra never faded an inch. He just never felt that way about her, simple as that.
Sarah made a face, rolling her eyes. “Oh, please. Don’t even compare Mr. Williams to Jordan Smith. Jordan’s a total jerk—he doesn’t even deserve to be in the same conversation.”
