Sarah Brown knew her big brother all too well—he was always neck-deep in work, and she was careful not to waste his precious time.
So, she got straight to the point. “Hey, can you look someone up for me? Her name’s Sandra Taylor. She got back from Europe about six months ago...”
Sarah quickly filled her brother in on everything she knew about Sandra Taylor.
On the other end of the line, Billy Brown listened quietly. He didn’t say yes right away, but he didn’t say no either. “That’s easy enough. I can help you out, but you have to promise me one thing first.”
Sarah immediately grew wary. “What do you want me to do?”
Billy didn’t bother with any games. “I want you to head over to the Smith Group’s branch in Columbus and take over for a while. You’ve had all the fun you could want in Harrisburg—it’s time you did something for the family.”
“Knew it…” Sarah muttered, clearly annoyed.
“What, you’re not willing?” Billy’s tone had a hint of threat to it.
Sarah rolled her eyes. “Willing? Why would I be? I’m perfectly happy in Harrisburg. All my friends are here. Why do I have to go to Columbus? There are other people running things over there, aren’t there?”
Why drag her all the way there for nothing?
Knowing her brother, Sarah couldn’t help but get suspicious. “Are you scheming something?”
Billy replied calmly, “Come on. What could I possibly be plotting by sending you to our own branch? The current manager in Columbus is just too good—I want him back at headquarters, so I need someone trustworthy to fill in. If I had anyone else for the job, I wouldn’t be sending you to mess up the Smith Group.”
“Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence,” Sarah shot back instantly. “If you think I’ll mess things up, why send me at all?”
