“Heh, serves him right. To ditch his own wife for a woman like that? That’s karma, if you ask me!”
“Isn’t it just the biggest irony?”
“That’s what you get for being a two-timer!”
The guests at the party buzzed with gossip, but Jordan Smith couldn’t hear a word. His mind was spinning, filled with the humiliating photos spread out before him.
He’d obsessed over this woman for years. He’d given his wife the cold shoulder, always thinking of Sandra, only to find out she’d been living it up overseas, cycling through boyfriends like flavors at Baskin Robbins.
The very thought of Sandra’s wild life abroad—her in the arms of countless men—made his blood boil. His pride as a man, as President of Smith Enterprises, was lying in tatters on the floor for everyone to stomp on.
Jordan trembled with rage. He grabbed Sandra Taylor by the arm, teeth clenched, his voice shaking: “Are these real, Sandra? Tell me the truth!”
“No, no—of course not!” Sandra stammered, her eyes wide with panic. “Jordan, don’t listen to them! It’s all lies! You know me, you know how much I love you—I could never do anything like that. Someone’s framing us!”
She tried desperately to explain, but Jordan’s icy blue eyes were blazing. The usually composed, handsome face now twisted with anger.
Just then, Sarah Brown, never one to pass up on drama, fanned the flames. “Still lying, Sandra? I only showed photos because I didn’t want to scar everyone for life. But I’ve got video too. You and some guy at a bar, right here on my phone. Want me to send it to you, Mr. Smith?”
Sandra’s face crumpled. She snapped, screaming, “Don’t you dare, Brown! Don’t you dare!”
She lunged at Sarah, reaching for her phone, but Sarah sidestepped her easily. Sandra’s momentum sent her sprawling onto the hardwood floor.
Walter Wilson, lounging nearby with a glass of whiskey, snorted and drawled, “Whoa, losing your cool, Sandra?”
The guests, who’d been fixated on the scene, finally put two and two together.
“So it’s all true, then?”
“Looks like it. Why else would she freak out like that?”
“These days, you can tell if photos and videos are fake. If she’s innocent, why panic?”
A wave of contempt washed over the crowd.
