Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 610

He grinned, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Ms. Davis, you must be new to the Cabinda social scene, huh? Bet there are a lot of strangers for you here tonight. If you let me introduce you around, you’d save yourself a whole lot of trouble.”

As he spoke, Jonathan Allen stepped a little closer, invading Camila Davis’s personal space.

Camila’s brow furrowed. She instinctively took a step back, putting some distance between them. “I appreciate the offer, Mr. Allen, but that’s really not necessary.”

Jonathan noticed her chilly demeanor and the way she kept her distance. He clicked his tongue, shaking his head. “Ms. Davis, come on. I know the whole ice queen act—keeping men at arm’s length, playing a little hard to get. But you know, if you keep acting so uptight, people are going to lose interest.”

He flashed a cocky smile. “I like a woman with a bit more fire, you know? I’m practically handing you a golden opportunity here. If you don’t grab it, well—you might not get another shot.”

It was clear from the start Jonathan Allen had no intention of hiding what he wanted. His words dripped with self-importance, as if Camila should feel honored just to be on his radar.

Camila’s expression hardened. Her voice was cool, edged with annoyance. “What exactly do you mean by that, Mr. Allen?”

Jonathan let out a low, arrogant chuckle. “Oh, drop the act, Camila Davis. The Smiths kicked you out, didn’t they? You turned that engagement party into a circus. Pretty obvious the Smiths can’t stand the sight of you anymore, so you ran all the way from Harrisburg to Cabinda, right?”

He leaned in, voice lowering. “You’re here tonight, mixing with the high and mighty, just hoping to catch yourself a rich bachelor for a fresh start. So why bother playing the innocent?”

Camila stared at him, utterly bewildered. She’d kept to herself all night, quietly standing in a corner. When had she ever given the impression she was here on the hunt for a wealthy husband?

And yet, here he was, pushing her boundaries, mistaking her politeness for interest. She wasn’t someone who’d take this lying down.

Her tone grew even icier. “Mr. Allen, I’d appreciate it if you showed some respect. Like I said, I’m here with a friend, not for whatever you’re imagining. If you have nothing more to say, please leave me alone.”

With that, Camila turned to walk away, eager to put distance between herself and this arrogant jerk.

But Jonathan moved fast, stepping in front to block her path.

His voice was sharp now, threatening. “Hold up! Did I say you could leave?”

Camila glared at him, her patience wearing thin.

Sarah put her hands on her hips, completely unfazed. “Yeah, I did. Someone had to do it. Nobody wants to hear another word out of your foul mouth. I’m just trying to keep the environment here pleasant for everyone else!”

Jonathan’s jaw clenched as realization dawned. “So you’re with her, huh?”

Sarah stepped forward, placing herself squarely between Camila and Jonathan, making her loyalty crystal clear.

She’d been watching from across the room, noticing Jonathan hassling Camila. The way Camila’s face had clouded over was enough for Sarah to come running.

And hearing Jonathan’s disgusting comments—about gold-digging, about finding a “replacement”—made Sarah’s blood boil.

She didn’t care if he was a big shot or a nobody. Anyone who talked like that deserved what was coming to them.

So before Camila could even respond, Sarah took matters into her own hands.

The commotion drew the attention of the entire room. With voices raised and tempers flaring, it was impossible for the other partygoers not to turn and stare.
