Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 612

“You? Please. If someone like you was lying in the gutter, I wouldn’t even spare you a glance. And you think I’d be after your money?” Sarah shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Honestly, your so-called fortune isn’t even enough to buy a decent cheeseburger. Who do you think you are?”

She rolled her eyes, her lips curling into a mocking smile. “Sure, the Allen Corporation has money, but have you forgotten about the Brown Group? I’m a Brown—do you really think I need your pocket change?”

At that, the people around them exchanged glances, curiosity lighting up their faces.

“The Brown Group? Wait, she’s with the Brown Group?”

A few folks who’d been introduced by Aurora Robinson whispered hurriedly to the others, explaining who Sarah was. Instantly, the group’s attitude shifted. People who’d looked down on Sarah moments ago now eyed her with new respect.

“So she’s the Brown Group heiress? That Brown Group?”

Back home, the Brown Group wasn’t a huge deal, but everyone knew they’d started out in Philadelphia and had made it big overseas—especially in London and Paris. In fact, half the people in this room had business ties with them. Nobody wanted to get on Sarah Brown’s bad side now.

Jonathan Allen overheard the whispers, his face tightening. He hadn’t realized this woman was a Brown. But so what? The Brown family might be a big deal abroad, but here, in New York, they didn’t carry as much weight. Even if her brother was some hotshot, there was no way he’d reach his hands this far.

Besides, Jonathan had his sights set on Camila Davis tonight, and nothing would distract him. He fixed Sarah with a cold stare. “Ms. Brown, out of respect for your family, I’ll let your little outburst slide. Walk away now, and I won’t make things difficult for you. But Camila is coming with me. The Allen family runs this city. If your friend sticks with us, she’ll only benefit. She’ll keep her place in high society. What do you say?”

He said it like he was offering some incredible gift.

Sarah snorted. “Give me a break! Who do you think you are? You really think you’re God’s gift to women? If anything, you should be grateful I’m even wasting my breath on you. You parade around like some big-shot Mr. Smith, but you’re just a sleazy creep, harassing women at a public event. Have you no shame?”

She jabbed a finger at his chest, voice rising. “You think you’re doing us a favor? Please. Maybe take a look in the mirror before you start handing out your so-called ‘charity.’ Trust me, we have standards too.”
