Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 632

Dennis Williams could see right through her brave little act, but he didn’t call her out on it.

Little Lillian was clearly a bit anxious. Maybe it was that deep-seated fear of being overlooked, or maybe the lingering effects of her illness. Either way, in her heart, she was terrified her dad wouldn’t show up.

But… he was here. He hadn’t let her down.

Dennis caught the look in his daughter’s eyes and felt his heart melt. He crouched down to her level, speaking sincerely: “Hey, Lillian, you don’t have to worry, okay? If I ever promise you something, I’ll do it. Always. And if there ever comes a day I can’t keep my promise, it’ll only be because something truly unavoidable happened. But I’ll always make it up to you, I swear. So, from now on, don’t be scared about things like this anymore, alright?”

Lillian’s eyes lit up, and she immediately threw her arms around his neck, all the worry vanishing from her face. “Okay! I remember, Daddy! You’re the best, and I love you the most!”

Then she pressed a kiss to his cheek.

Dennis laughed, ruffling her hair. “I love you too, Lillian.”

Camila Davis stood by, watching the two of them with the gentlest smile. She could see, plain as day, how Dennis was slowly filling in all the missing pieces in Lillian’s life—love, attention, simple dad things. He was giving her everything she’d been missing, even though none of it was really his responsibility. And he was doing it better than anyone else ever could.

How could she not fall for a man like that?

Camila could feel her heart getting softer with every little thing he did. She understood now why so many people liked Dennis Williams. Because, honestly, she liked him too—more and more, every day.

She didn’t let herself watch them for too long, though. She cleared her throat and said, “Alright, guys, we’d better get going or we’ll be late.”

“Okay!”

“Let’s go!”
