Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 644

So, it turns out everything he said was true.

Camila Davis leaned softly against him, her voice gentle: “Okay, I’ll do whatever you say.”

Dennis Williams couldn’t help but smile, loving the feeling of being completely trusted by her.

When the two of them got back to the art studio, Lillian had just finished a painting and was cleaning her paintbrushes. Hearing the door open, she turned around, her tiny voice bubbling with excitement: “Daddy, I finished my painting!”

But the next second, she noticed her mom was being carried.

The little one’s eyes went wide, and she rushed over, worry written all over her face: “Daddy, why are you carrying Mommy? Is she hurt?”

You really couldn’t blame her—Camila and Dennis had never acted like this in front of her before, so it was only natural for Lillian to assume something was wrong.

Camila felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment—not quite the reaction she’d expected. She quickly got down from Dennis’s arms and hurried to explain: “No, sweetie, Mommy’s totally fine! I wasn’t hurt at all. It’s just… Mommy and Daddy love each other, so Daddy was carrying me to come see you!”

Lillian blinked her big blue eyes, then seemed to catch on. She grinned, “Oh! That’s good. If Mommy isn’t hurt, then Daddy should carry Mommy more often. I like when Daddy carries me, so Mommy must like it too!”

Kids say the funniest things, and Camila’s face turned even redder. But deep down, she had to admit—Dennis was right. Lillian really was happy to see her parents getting along so well.

Dennis ruffled Lillian’s hair. “Alright. I’ll make sure to carry both of you more often. But first, let’s see this masterpiece you’ve made.”

Lillian stepped aside, eager for her dad’s opinion.

Dennis took a look at the painting, complimented her work, and gently pointed out a few areas where she could improve next time.

Lillian nodded along, soaking up every word, her little face serious and attentive.

Later, she asked Dennis to help frame her painting. But soon she was yawning, rubbing her eyes, looking every bit the sleepy kid.

Camila noticed and figured it was time for a bath before bed. That’s when she realized: none of their clothes were here.

Dennis, always one step ahead, said, “There are clothes for you and Lillian in the walk-in closet.”

Camila looked at him, genuinely surprised.

He grinned at her, eyes twinkling. “Go on, take a look.”
