In the end, she never got the chance—before she knew it, she was already gazing at Dennis Williams with complete trust in her eyes.
All her anxiety vanished in an instant.
Of course. Her heart was with someone else now.
With Dennis Williams there, what need did she have for him?
Walter Wilson pressed his lips into a thin, silent line and watched from the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Dennis Williams had already walked over to Audrey Williams, reached out, and tapped her lightly on the head, correcting her gently, “Why are you calling her ‘sister’? Call her Camila.”
No one had expected Dennis to just blurt it out like that.
The whole lounge fell silent, the only sound left was their breathing.
Charlotte Kelly shot her husband a glance, surprised by her nephew’s directness.
Walter Wilson heard Dennis say ‘Camila,’ and felt as if the treasure he’d set his heart on was slipping further and further away.
Camila Davis stared at Dennis, wide-eyed with shock. Her look seemed to say: Did you really just announce it like that? Are you sure?
The only ones who seemed completely unfazed were Dennis Williams, Aaron, and Audrey Williams.
“Oh,” Audrey replied obediently. She immediately broke into a brilliant smile and corrected herself, calling out, “Camila!”
Camila Davis was caught off guard, twisting the hem of her shirt with flushed ears, not sure how to respond. She wanted to say something several times, but the words just wouldn’t come.
At that moment, she stopped worrying about what the Williams family might think of her. She managed to collect herself and greeted them politely, “Hello, I’m... Camila Davis.”
Douglas Williams and Charlotte Kelly finally snapped out of their astonishment. Douglas looked over at Dennis with an amused expression, “I wondered why you didn’t bring anyone to the banquet tonight. Turns out you were planning something big and didn’t say a word!”
He’d figured it out by now. Camila running into Audrey’s episode was probably a coincidence. But Camila being here for dinner tonight—there was no way that was accidental. Dennis had been planning to introduce her to the family all along!
Charlotte, hearing her husband’s muttering, laughed as well. But there wasn’t a trace of criticism in her expression as she looked at Camila—only warmth and kindness, as if she was just any other young person in the family.
She smiled gently, “Camila, we’ve known about you for a while. We just didn’t say anything earlier because we didn’t want to make you uncomfortable. Dennis really is something else.”
She shot Dennis a mock glare and chided him, “How could you keep quiet about something as important as introducing your girlfriend to the family?”
