Whatever he did, Dennis Williams always liked to have a plan in place before making a move.
But this time was different. This time, he was truly anxious.
He listened to Camila’s assessment of him, a smile lighting up his face, charming as ever. “I never noticed it myself. Maybe it’s because I met you.”
His eyes softened with affection as he pulled her gently into his arms, his tone suddenly more serious. “I want my family to meet you sooner rather than later, Camila. I want them to see how wonderful you are.”
He was getting sentimental again.
But Camila Davis simply couldn’t resist him when he was like this.
She felt deeply moved, yet beneath the warmth was a flicker of anxiety. “Your uncle Douglas, your aunt Charlotte—they both seem like lovely people. When I met them just now, they didn’t give me any attitude at all.
On the contrary, they were polite, even genuinely friendly. It’s just…”
She hesitated. “Do you really think they can accept me being with you?”
That worry still lingered in her heart.
But Dennis looked at her with unwavering certainty. “Absolutely. Not only can they accept it—uncle Douglas and aunt Charlotte already like you.
And Audrey—well, she’s practically your biggest fan.
Even though the two of you only met for the first time tonight, she’s been curious about you ever since she heard about us. She’s been pestering Larry to tell her everything about us, practically every other day.
She didn’t even need to meet you to decide she approves.”
And as for Audrey, she’s never doubted my choices—she’s always believed that whatever I pick is the best. If I like you, she’s all in.”
Lillian had always worshipped her older brother, after all.
Hearing his words, Camila fell silent.
Why did it feel like she was dreaming? Was it really this easy to be accepted by the Williams family?
Was Dennis just telling her what she wanted to hear?
He seemed to sense her uncertainty, so he softened his voice, speaking honestly. “There’s just one holdout in the family—my grandfather. He’s a bit stubborn, but don’t worry. Now that I have uncle Douglas and aunt Charlotte on our side, they’ll help convince him.
Once people get to know you, Camila, they can’t help but like you. Even the elder Mr. Williams won’t be able to hold out forever.”
