Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 702

The moment Dennis Williams caught sight of that swimsuit, his eyes darkened noticeably. He changed his mind on the spot. “Camila and I aren’t going in,” he announced. “You three take Lillian down to the pool.”

“Huh?” Sarah Brown blinked in surprise. “What’s the point of coming to a place like this if you’re not swimming? Where’s the fun in that?”

Dennis replied with steady calm, “We’ll just watch from the sidelines.”

Then he turned those deep-set eyes on Camila Davis. “What about you, Camila? Do you want to swim?”

Camila met his gaze, and for reasons she couldn’t quite explain, she read something unspoken in his look—a trace of possessiveness, subtle but unmistakable.

She was genuinely caught off guard. The Dennis she knew was always composed, the type who could face a falling sky without batting an eye. Emotions like this were rare for him.

But to be fair, she’d just noticed some of the men here were wearing nothing but swim trunks—nothing left to the imagination. That made her think, involuntarily, of her own boyfriend’s impressive physique. She’d never actually seen him in just swimwear, but even in a bathrobe at the hot springs, she could glimpse the contours beneath: eight perfect, evenly spaced abs, every line radiating a quiet, magnetic strength. And those long legs…

Suddenly, Camila found herself reluctant to let anyone else see what was hers.

A little flustered by the thought, she felt her ears burning, but kept her expression neutral. “No, you all go ahead. We’ll just stay here and watch.”

Sarah looked baffled, while Audrey Williams arched an eyebrow in a knowing ‘I called it’ way. Larry Adams, watching the exchange, put it all together at once.

He let out a low whistle. “I get it—no way Camila’s wearing a swimsuit for everyone else to see. Of course, that’s for Dennis’s eyes only. Guess we should just head down ourselves.”

As the realization dawned, Sarah and Audrey burst out laughing.

Sarah gave up on dragging her friend along. “Alright, you two can keep being devoted to each other. We’ll keep an eye on Lillian.”

“Yeah, enjoy your little love bubble over here. We’ll go have some fun!” Audrey chimed in, grinning.

When Sarah and the others came out, they found the couple whispering together, Camila all flustered and Dennis looking impossibly pleased with himself, a teasing glint in his eyes behind his glasses.

Audrey couldn’t hide her surprise. She’d often wondered what her brother would be like in love; she’d pictured him formal, polite, maybe a little distant—but never this sweet, almost giddy scene, with affection so thick it practically hung in the air.

“Wow—so even the stoic ones can turn into romantics,” Larry remarked, arms crossed, surveying the two with a theatrical sigh. “Guess love really does change people.”

Sarah shook her head, feigning exasperation. “Ugh, can’t watch—let’s just go!”

Audrey grinned, feeling the sting of their public display of affection.

Soon, the group—now all changed—led Lillian toward the pool. Lillian herself was dressed in a pink, cartoon-themed swimsuit with matching fox-ear headband, looking every bit like an adorable character out of a children’s movie. She clutched her inflatable ring, trailing after Sarah with excitement.

Because Lillian was still so young, and with one of the kids in the group having a heart condition, Sarah and Larry steered clear of the more intense activities and stuck to the gentler ones: floating, water toys, and playful water fights with squirt guns and buckets.
