Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 704

Dennis barely spared her a glance, but Camila had been quietly keeping an eye on her the whole time.

She knew about her heart condition and worried she might overexert herself, so after they changed clothes earlier, she’d even handed over her heart medication, just to be safe.

Camila couldn’t help but feel touched—it was such a thoughtful gesture.

It made her realize that people who truly cared wouldn’t ask her to give up on herself, or her dreams, or everything she was working for.

Instead, they’d always be there to catch her when she needed support.

A warm sense of gratitude blossomed in her chest, and she smiled, accepting their kindness without protest. “Alright.”

Later, after everyone had rested, they headed out to dinner together.

Larry Adams had reserved a large private room at a nearby restaurant.

Once they’d finished ordering, Audrey Williams accidentally got something on her hand and slipped off to wash up.

She hadn’t expected to bump into Cynthia Lee on her way back.

Surprised, she blurted out, “Nancy? What are you doing here?”

Cynthia turned at the sound of her voice, equally caught off guard, but then she broke into a bright smile. “What a coincidence! I was supposed to have dinner with Natalie, but she got called away by some emergency at Smith Group and had to bail on me last minute. I was just about to head out—it’s so dull eating alone. I never thought I’d run into you here!”

Cynthia’s mood seemed to brighten as she stepped closer, her tone warm and familiar. “Audrey, are you here by yourself? Why don’t you join me? That way, neither of us has to eat alone, and we can finally finish that conversation we started last time.”

The offer caught Audrey off guard—she wasn’t alone, after all. They’d come as a group.

But the thought of Cynthia’s history with Dennis made her instinctively want to decline.

She didn’t get the chance. Cynthia had already slipped her arm through Audrey’s, continuing, “Come to think of it, you’ve always had so many friends. Now that you’re back, you must be catching up with everyone. Are you here with friends tonight? Why not let me tag along? I know most of your friends anyway, and you wouldn’t want to leave me here by myself, would you?”

Before Audrey could answer, Cynthia was already leading her down the hallway—straight to their private room.

Any awkwardness Audrey felt evaporated instantly. She couldn’t help but look at Cynthia with a new sense of curiosity. Cynthia hadn’t even asked which room was theirs; how did she know?

Audrey just smiled quietly to herself. Well, if she wants to join, let her.

She said nothing more and followed Cynthia inside.

By now, the dishes had all been served.

Hearing the door open, Camila was the first to turn around. “Audrey, dinner’s ready—come join us, everyone’s waiting for you—”

What a coincidence, he thought. Stood up here, of all places? And then, conveniently, runs into Audrey?

He never cared much for Cynthia, and tonight was no exception—especially considering the company.

For Larry, Camila was the one who mattered. He had no patience for anyone who might ruin the family’s evening.

He knew Cynthia better than most. Because of his position in the Adams family, plenty of people in their social circle looked down on him—including Cynthia, who’d never bothered to hide her disdain.

She was proud and self-important to her core, clinging to the Williams family like it was a golden ticket, acting as if no one else was worth her time.

Even he’d been on the receiving end of her barbed remarks. More than once, he’d overheard her snidely calling him the “black sheep” of the Adams family—unworthy, aimless, not fit to stand beside Dennis.

Now she was putting on a show, probably after hearing about their dinner plans and deciding to crash the party just to stir things up and remind everyone she still existed.

He almost laughed.

The engagement had already been called off—how did she still have the nerve to show up and act like nothing happened?

Did she honestly think she was so irresistible that she could win Dennis back?
