Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 707

Cynthia Lee was suddenly overwhelmed with regret for inviting herself here.

The scene unfolding before her felt like a cruel punishment—she was forced to watch him shower another woman with tenderness, her own heart growing heavy and bitter. Even the delicious meal before her tasted like sawdust.

Audrey Williams, ever perceptive, took in every nuance of Cynthia’s reaction.

She felt a twinge of sympathy, a pang of guilt even. No matter how things had changed, the families had once shared a promise, and the Williamses owed the Lees at least that much.

Uncomfortable watching Cynthia’s composure crack, Audrey decided to offer her a little extra kindness.

“Nancy, you should have some soup. Here, let me pour you a bowl. It’s light and easy on the stomach—just what you need.”

“Thank you…” Cynthia forced herself to take a few sips, though eating was the last thing she wanted. She couldn’t bring herself to refuse Audrey’s gentle gesture.

Sarah Brown, sitting across the table, noticed Cynthia’s discomfort—and felt a quiet satisfaction.

There was only one reason she’d insisted Cynthia stay for dinner: she wanted her to see, with her own eyes, just how much Dennis Williams cared for Camila. To show her exactly who was truly unworthy of him.

Let Cynthia witness it all. Maybe next time, she’d think twice before looking down her nose at Camila or daring to insult her.

Feeling victorious, Sarah even helped herself to another serving.

When dinner finally ended and everyone began to leave, little Lillian tugged on her mother’s sleeve. “Mommy, I need to wash my hands!”

She’d gotten her hands sticky while eating, and a quick wipe with a napkin simply wasn’t enough for her fastidious nature.

“I’ll take you, sweetheart,” Camila replied, leading her toward the restroom.

As soon as Camila turned on the tap, she caught the faint sound of footsteps behind her. She glanced up and, unsurprised, met Cynthia Lee’s reflection in the mirror.

There was a flicker of indifference in Camila’s eyes. She’d expected this. After everything that had happened tonight, if Cynthia could just walk away unaffected, she wouldn’t be the Cynthia Lee Camila remembered.

Cynthia, acting as if she owned the place, strode to the counter, pulled out a lipstick, and began touching up her makeup. She didn’t spare Camila so much as a glance before speaking, her voice cool and superior.

“Is this what you call loving Dennis?” she sneered. “He used to be a golden boy—privileged, untouchable, living above the rest. Now look at him. He’s taking care of your child! Is this really what he deserves?”

She turned, eyes icy. “You don’t deserve him, Camila. You never did.”

Camila could barely stop her eyes from rolling. The same old nonsense.

“Really?” Lillian still seemed unconvinced, her little nose wrinkling. In her mind, that lady was definitely not a good person.

The two returned to the private dining room. As they entered, Sarah Brown shot Camila a knowing look, as if to ask, “Are you all right?”

Camila gave a small shake of her head, signaling she was fine.

Sarah let out a visible sigh of relief. She’d been ready to march to the restroom herself if Camila had taken any longer—she wasn’t about to let Cynthia Lee bully her best friend.

Camila turned to Dennis. “Are we heading out?”

Dennis smiled and replied, “You got a call while you were gone. No rush.”

Camila checked her phone and saw several missed messages. Walter Wilson had tried to reach her.

She’d been about to call him back when she noticed the string of texts already waiting.

“Jordan Smith went to Cabinda.”

“A third of the Smith Group’s projects have been handed over to Lucas Smith.”
