Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 716

Just then, Jordan Smith suddenly turned to her and asked, “Are you hurt?”

Camila Davis lifted her gaze with cool indifference, giving him a fleeting glance.

Gone was the cold detachment usually written in his features; instead, Jordan’s expression now held an unexpected softness and concern—a warmth that reminded her of Brown, his gentler side.

Camila found it absurd. Was that genuine worry she saw on Jordan Smith’s face? Jordan Smith, worried about her?

The thought was almost laughable.

Had he lost his mind?

Whatever state he was in, Camila had no intention of engaging with him. In fact, she was tempted to abandon the medical book she’d come to retrieve.

Right now, all she wanted was to find Dennis Williams…

As if their minds were somehow connected, the tall and familiar figure appeared, parting through the crowd until he stood right before her.

“Camila.”

Dennis’s eyes radiated concern; he’d already heard what had happened. Seeing him, the knot of frustration in Camila’s chest finally eased.

Without hesitation, she reached out and took his arm, her voice soft and relieved. “Dennis.”

Jordan Smith was left standing alone, watching her retreating silhouette, his expression momentarily frozen.

Nathan Gates observed the whole scene in silence, not the least bit surprised by Camila’s attitude.

In his mind, their boss was only getting what he deserved.

Back when Camila had still been by his side, Jordan hadn’t known how to cherish her. Now that all was lost, only regret remained.

Nathan had witnessed everything since the disastrous engagement party. After that, Jordan had been so furious he’d fallen ill. Coincidentally, his old leg injury flared up, and he ended up bedridden in the hospital for days.

When he finally regained consciousness, a darkness had settled over him, turning him cold and ruthless.

The day Sandra Taylor came to beg for forgiveness, Jordan, who had always been so composed and gentlemanly, actually lost his temper and smashed things—like some switch inside him had been triggered.

Sandra had destroyed the last shred of tenderness in him, and in his fit of rage, he’d hurled a glass at her, leaving her bleeding and shaken.

He simply couldn’t accept that the woman he’d loved for so long was, in the end, so base and filthy.

The events at the engagement party had stripped away Sandra’s façade, exposing the truth—that she had betrayed him long ago.

What stung even more was that, for someone like her, he’d hurt the woman who truly loved him, and abandoned his own child.

So, watching Camila ignore him now was only to be expected.

Meanwhile, Dennis Williams was studying Camila with concern. “Are you hurt?” he asked gently.

Camila shook her head. “No,” she replied. Still, the furrow between her brows betrayed her irritation.

A rare flash of anger flickered in Dennis’s eyes. He hadn’t been gone long, and already someone had nearly struck her!

Catching sight of the woman still ranting nearby, Dennis’s gaze turned cold as steel.

He looked at Lavinia Roberts and asked, “You’re with the Roberts family?”

Lavinia had just finished an angry phone call, vowing to make them pay, when she suddenly saw Dennis. She froze, mouth agape, fear spreading across her face.

“You—you’re here?” she stammered.

Clearly, she knew exactly who Dennis Williams was.

Beside her, Jarvis Peters also recognized Dennis; surprise flashed across his face as he hurried over. “Mr. Williams, what brings you here?”

He glanced between Dennis and Camila, noticing their closeness. Curiosity getting the better of him, he asked, “Do you two know each other?”
