Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 721

Harper Thompson’s expression shifted instantly, caught somewhere between disbelief and anxiety.

No way. This can’t be possible.

Lavinia Roberts was a Roberts, after all—a member of a family so old and powerful, most people barely spoke their name in public. Who would dare mess with her? Who had the nerve to try?

But Jarvis Peters’ reputation spoke for itself.

Harper couldn’t imagine he’d lie about something like this.

So what was really going on here?

A cold unease crept into her chest, making her too nervous even to open her mouth.

Right beside her, Benjamin Torres looked completely thrown.

Camila… has a boyfriend?

They’d worked together for months now, but Benjamin realized he didn’t know a thing about Camila Davis’ personal life. Hadn’t she only just finalized her divorce? How did she already have someone new in her life?

He frowned, unable to wrap his mind around it. He wanted to ask her directly, but this really wasn’t the time or place.

Meanwhile, Dennis Williams ignored all of them, his tone gentle as he turned to Camila. “Camila, want to give it a shot?”

He’d barely finished the sentence before Jarvis Peters chimed in, eyes bright with anticipation. “That’s a great idea! Camila, I’ve heard all about how talented you are. They say you’re Mr. Morris’s top protégé—this is a rare opportunity. How about a friendly competition?”

He grinned, clearly itching for a challenge. “Honestly, I hold the best record here—three years running and no one’s even come close. I’d love to see what you’ve got!”

“Oh?” Camila had already been intrigued by the idea, but now her interest was fully piqued. So this was why he’d volunteered to show her around?

She flashed a confident smile. “You’re on. Let’s do it!”

Jarvis’s eyes gleamed. “One thing though—it wouldn’t be any fun without a little wager. How about we put something on the line?”

Camila caught the eager look in his eyes and didn’t need to ask to know what he was after.

He wants access to the medical school archives, doesn’t he?

After all, he’d just mentioned wanting to visit the school earlier. It all made sense.

She cleared her throat. “Let’s hear it.”

“Alright,” Jarvis said, lighting up. “If I win, you let me borrow your medical school’s archives for a bit. Just to have a look, I promise!”

“Deal!” Jarvis replied, grinning from ear to ear.

With the terms set, there was no more need to delay.

As the next round was about to begin, Camila turned to Dennis Williams with a playful smile. “Wish me luck?”

He smiled back, nodding. “You’ve got this.”

Then, bending toward her, he said softly, “Back at the church, my godfather always said I was born under a lucky star, blessed and destined for good fortune. Today, I’m sharing that luck with you. May my Camila shine on that stage.”

With that, he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, then slipped off the bracelet he always wore and fastened it around her slender wrist.

It had wrapped three times around his own wrist, but on hers, it circled five times, the beads carrying the faint scent of sandalwood and the warmth of his skin.

Camila couldn’t help but smile, her eyes bright as sunlight. “I’ll win this for you.”

Watching from nearby, Jarvis was floored by the change in Dennis Williams. Was this really the same man he’d always known? Around Camila, he seemed like a different person entirely.

The announcer was already calling names.

Camila glanced back and caught Jarvis’s bewildered look. She grinned and called out, “Don’t just stand there—get up on stage!”
