Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 749

She remembered very clearly that last night, this number was different.

Camila Davis understood just how serious the situation was.

She quickly asked with concern, “Do you know how the colleague who was injured is doing now?”

Abner Young replied, “He’s alright—no major harm done. He did suffer some burns, though. But the whole thing started because of you.”

Relieved to hear it wasn’t too serious, she made a mental note to check in on her coworker later.

But right now…

Camila took a deep breath, her expression growing more earnest as she turned to Abner Young. “Mr. Young, there’s something I need to clarify. The data you have right now—it isn’t the report I submitted.

Before I left the office last night, I double-checked everything, several times.

I still have the original data saved on my computer.

Even the file I printed out—it’s not the same as this one.”

Garth, who had just finished reprimanding her, immediately cut in, his tone sharp, “Camila, we asked you here today to hold you accountable and to make sure you understand how serious this is—not to hear excuses!

You’re new here. When you make a mistake, you own up to it. Are you trying to dodge responsibility?”

Camila shook her head. “If this really was my mistake, I’d take full responsibility and accept any consequences.

But this data—it truly wasn’t from me.

If you trust me, let me bring in my computer.

Or you can have someone fetch it, to prove my innocence.”

Abner Young had always admired Camila’s work ethic and attention to detail, even as a junior member of the team. Hearing her response now, he didn’t immediately dismiss her words as excuses like Garth had.

He fell silent for a few seconds, then looked her in the eye. “Camila, are you sure about this?

If we look into this, and it turns out you really did make a mistake, the consequences will be more severe than they are now. By insisting on an investigation, you risk being seen as dishonest, and the penalty will double.”

They both sensed the tension in the air as they stepped into the office packed with managers.

Camila, who had just left, was now standing in the middle of the room, separated from the rest as if under a spotlight.

What was going on?

Benjamin pushed aside his confusion and was the first to speak. “Mr. Young, you asked for us? Has something happened?”

Abner didn’t reply at first, instead glancing at the assistant, who had returned carrying Camila’s computer.

The assistant placed it in front of them, and Abner opened it himself.

Together, they checked the original data.

Sure enough, just as Camila had said, her files were completely different from the incorrect report.

The managers exchanged uneasy glances, frowning as they realized something was seriously wrong. Instinctively, their eyes shifted to the three team members standing before them.
