Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 76

She broke into a run, dashing outside.

But, as everyone knows, two legs are no match for four wheels.

By the time Camila Davis made it out the door, the Rolls-Royce was already halfway down the street, its sleek shape shrinking in the distance. In just a few seconds, it disappeared around the corner.

Camila felt a pang of disappointment settle in her chest. After all that effort—tracking him down, finally getting within arm’s reach—she’d lost her chance just like that.

But what about her daughter, Lillian? There was only one person who could truly help her, and he was now gone.

She hadn’t even had the chance to properly ask him for help.

Mr. White came rushing out after her. He, too, caught a glimpse of the car vanishing down the road and turned to look at Camila.

The woman who, just moments ago, had been so decisive and efficient during the treatment, now looked utterly defeated, like a wilted daisy left out in the frost.

He couldn’t help but try to comfort her. “Ms. Davis, don’t worry. Mr. Williams’ work with us isn’t done yet. He’ll be back tomorrow, and I’m sure you’ll get another chance to talk to him.”

“Really?” Camila perked up, hope flickering back into her eyes.

Mr. White nodded. “Our team’s issues aren’t just physical. There’s a lot to work through emotionally, too. It’ll take a few more days, at least. So don’t worry—you’ll definitely see him again.”

Relief washed over Camila. Of course—these things couldn’t be rushed. And just being able to get this close to him was already a huge step forward. Compared to how hopeless things had seemed before, when she couldn’t even find a single piece of information on him, this was already a small miracle.

With her spirits lifted, Camila took a deep breath and headed back inside to continue treating the special forces team.

Before she knew it, lunchtime rolled around, and the first round of treatments was finished.

Handing it over with a shy smile, she said, “And this! The nice man drew it for me… He said me and Lightning are both cute elves!”

Camila blinked. The nice man? And who was Lightning?

She was puzzled, but took the paper anyway and unfolded it.

Her breath caught. It was a beautiful drawing—a snapshot of Lillian and the puppy, playing together. Her little girl’s face was alight with the purest joy, and the puppy leapt playfully at her, small paws reaching forward. It was an ordinary scene, but the artist had brought it to life with so much warmth and movement, capturing the innocence and energy of childhood.

Camila stared at the picture, unable to look away.

Suddenly, a thought struck her. She looked at Lillian and asked, “The nice man you’re talking about… is he the same man who gave you that drawing last time?”
