Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 770

Dennis Williams hadn’t stopped by in days.

If they wanted to see each other, they had to meet somewhere in public.

Ever since Camila Davis had shown her face at NextGen Technologies, getting in and out had become a breeze.

When she pushed open the office door, Dennis had just finished his work.

He stood up and swept her into his arms.

“Are you tired?” he asked softly.

Camila reached up and gently massaged his brow.

There was a certain lazy weariness in his otherwise handsome features.

With his forehead pressed to hers, Dennis murmured, “I’m never tired when I see you.”

They settled together on the couch.

Taking the chance, Camila brought up Jarvis Peters, “What’s he like, as a person? And what about the Harris family? Tell me everything.”

Truthfully, she hadn’t known Jarvis that long.

From what she’d seen recently, Jarvis seemed to be a decent man—nothing had struck her as suspect.

But the Harris family… that was another story.

Dennis looked at her curiously. “Why are you suddenly asking about Jarvis Peters?”

Camila didn’t bother to hide it. “He showed up today out of the blue and asked if I’d take him on as my student. I guess he’s given up hope with my mentor. With that kind of determination, it’s hard to imagine him failing at anything.”

Dennis fell silent for a moment, letting the news sink in.

But since it concerned her taking on a student, he got serious. “Jarvis is a complete medical fanatic—lives and breathes it. You don’t have to worry about his character or trustworthiness. A few years back, he went alone to war-torn countries to provide free medical care for people at the bottom of society. He’s got a strong sense of justice.”

“As for the Harris family…” Dennis paused, then continued, “They’re a lot like the Roberts family.”

Camila frowned. “You mean, the Harris family is as bad as the Roberts family?”

He shook his head. “No, I mean their histories are similar. The Harris family comes from a long line of royal physicians. The difference is, the Harris family has been in that role for generations, whereas the Roberts family only got the position by chance, somewhere along the way. It might not seem like much, but in practice, the Harris family has much deeper roots. The Roberts family had a late start and a brief golden age, but each generation got weaker and, over time, their legacy faded. These days, their status isn’t a match for the Harris family.”

He went on, “Most people in the Harris family are honest, kind, and loyal. Most importantly, they’ve never used their family name to cause trouble or throw their weight around.”

Dennis looked at her, amused. “Seems like everywhere you go, people want to form some kind of bond.”

Camila let out a helpless sigh. “It’s not a sudden whim—he’s had the idea since I was a kid. It just never happened before. I bet Jarvis got the idea from that!”

Dennis nodded in agreement.

Between taking on a student and becoming Hamlin’s goddaughter, Dennis clearly preferred the latter.

“The Sanders family has a solid reputation, and their values are good. People speak highly of them. Hamlin Sanders is careful and smart; he’s been in politics for years and never made a misstep. He’s genuinely done good for the people. And he’s not at the top of his career yet.”

Becoming his goddaughter could open up a world of possibilities for Camila.

If Dennis said it was a good thing, she felt she could relax.

She leaned into his arms, smiling. “If you say it’s good, it must be good. I’ll take your word for it.”

Dennis poked her cheek, grinning. “If you trust me that much, would you help me count the money if I ever sold you off?”

Camila looked up at him, teasing, “Mr. Williams, you’re hardly strapped for cash. Selling me wouldn’t earn you as much as you make in a single day.”

He laughed softly. “You’ve got it wrong. To me, you’re priceless. I doubt anyone could afford to buy you.”
