Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 874

“He’s told her repeatedly he’s not interested and even publicly announced his relationship with Camila. Any normal person, no matter how dense, would have gotten the hint and let go by now, wouldn't they?” Douglas sighed in agreement. “It's not that easy for someone like her. She's been in love with Jordan Smith for years, and her pride won't let her accept losing to someone else. I have a feeling this is far from over.” Charlotte thought for a moment before looking at her husband. “Do you think we should have Dad speak to the Lee family and clear the air? If this drags on, it’s not good for Dennis and Camila, and it’s certainly not good for Nancy.” Douglas considered it seriously. “You’re right, it needs to be said.” He then turned to his daughter. “Has your grandfather softened his stance on Jordan Smith and Camila recently?” Audrey smiled and nodded. “He has. So if you talk to him now, he might finally agree to let go of the idea of Cynthia.” “Good,” Douglas said. “Then find the right time to bring it up with him.” “No problem!” Audrey promised, patting her chest. “Leave it to me!” Then, with a proud little smile, she added, “I really am Jordan's best sister!” Charlotte chuckled and fondly ruffled her hair. “That’s because Jordan Smith adores you, too!” Douglas smiled as well. “In a family, love and care go both ways.” While the Williams family shared a warm moment, Camila Davis had just finished dinner with her own parents. She was making them tea while explaining the arrangement she’d made for Jordan to see Lillian four times a month. “Jordan messaged today. He wants to take the little one out this weekend.” Melissa George’s face fell. “He wants to take her out? Can he even handle it? Jordan Smith has never looked after a child for a single day in his life! Besides, Lillian just started getting better. What if being with him causes a relapse? Camila, are you sure this is a good idea?” Jerry Davis added worriedly, “Meeting is one thing, at least we could be there. But taking her out alone… what if he can’t manage and she gets upset?” The mere thought made Melissa imagine the worst. She nearly shot to her feet, exclaiming, “I won’t let him take her out of this house!” The sudden movement tugged at her back, and she winced in pain. “Careful!” Jerry rushed to steady her. Camila also hurried over, helping her mother sit down. “Mom, please don’t get so worked up.” She gently massaged her mother’s back while explaining, “Dennis and I discussed this. Complying with the legal arrangement is the best way to stop Jordan Smith from constantly harassing us. Besides, we asked Lillian for her opinion first. She’s not as fragile as you think anymore. And when she’s with him, we’ll have someone watching them. Nothing will happen to her.” “You… you’re sure?” Melissa asked, hesitating. She found it hard to believe her granddaughter had agreed. Camila nodded and glanced toward the little girl playing nearby. As if sensing her mother’s gaze, Lillian toddled over, clutching her small pink fox toy. Melissa took her tiny hand and asked gently, “Lillian, do you really want to go see… your former father?” Lillian nodded obediently. “Yes, I do!” Her answer stunned the two grandparents. “She really agreed?” Melissa looked at her daughter in disbelief. “But why? I thought she couldn’t stand the Smith family.” Camila gently stroked her daughter’s hair and decided to tell them what had happened that night, including Lillian’s fears and her sense of guilt. As they listened, Melissa and her husband’s eyes reddened. They hadn't realized their little granddaughter was doing it for them. Melissa’s heart ached, and she pulled the child into a fierce hug. “Lillian, my sweet girl, tell Grandma the truth. Is this what you really want? If you don’t, we don’t have to force it. Grandma and Grandpa aren't afraid of them!” Lillian patted her grandmother’s shoulder, her sweet, childish voice soothing. “It’s okay, Grandma. I want to! I’m doing this so you and Grandpa can stay healthy and not be bothered by bad people. And it’s also so Daddy and Mommy can be together. I’m their little lucky star, so nothing bad will happen!” Seeing her fearless expression and her resolve, the grandparents said no more. They just held the soft, small child, covering her with kisses. They were truly blessed to have such a thoughtful, wonderful girl in their lives.
