Even the perpetually grumpy Eric Morris found it hard to maintain his scowl. After a moment of hesitation, he couldn't help but ask, "Are you all... truly accepting Camila now? You no longer mind that she's divorced and has a child?"
Douglas Williams quickly replied, "Of course not. It's not a major issue. To be honest, as parents of a daughter ourselves, we hope our own cherished child finds a good husband. When we learned what Camila went through, our hearts went out to her."
Charlotte leaned in and lowered her voice, speaking softly to Eric Morris. "My father-in-law can be a bit old-fashioned sometimes, and Dennis's situation is unique. He has always felt a certain responsibility for Dennis's life, which is why he was so stubborn before. He's not a bad person, so please, be the bigger man and don't hold it against him."
Standing nearby, the elder Mr. Williams seemed to overhear her. He shot her a displeased look. "What are you saying about me over there?"
Charlotte smiled sweetly. "Nothing, Dad. I wouldn't dare."
Seeing this, Eric Morris pursed his lips, the last of his annoyance fading away. "Fine. Since you've put it that way, I'll let bygones be bygones. From now on, I expect you all to cherish Camila. I've watched her grow up; she's like a daughter to me. Her parents are good, honest people, easy to talk to. But I, her master, am not. If anyone dares to bully her, I will personally see to it that they pay and that justice is served!"
His final words carried a clear warning. The Williams family understood, but they weren't offended. They had their own precious daughter and could empathize with a guardian's protective feelings.
Sarah Brown watched the scene unfold, her heart swelling with happiness for her best friend. She had seen Camila stumble and fall, picking herself up time and time again over the years, all alone. She had finally found someone wonderful, but their path had been filled with obstacles. No one knew how hard it had been for Camila, but Sarah did. Now that the Williams family had finally accepted her, it felt like all her suffering had been worth it. Sarah felt her nose begin to tingle.
Larry Adams, noticing her emotional state, understood completely. "This is a good thing, isn't it?" he said softly. "We should be happy for them."
Sarah nodded. "I know. Of course I'm happy."
Walter Wilson was also happy for Camila, but at the same time, a faint sense of loss settled in his heart. On the surface, he had let her go long ago. But deep down, a sliver of hope had remained. Now, with the greatest obstacle between Camila and Dennis gone, he knew it was time to truly give up.
