Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 913

The little girl had long since tired herself out and was now fast asleep in Dennis Williams’s arms. She looked so tiny, a red mark pressed onto her rosy cheek from leaning against him, but she was so exhausted she barely stirred, only shifting her position slightly before falling back into a deep slumber. Afraid she might catch a chill, Dennis wrapped his coat around her. The large garment made her look even more soft and adorable. As the two families said their goodbyes at the door, the elder Mr. Williams was still reluctant to leave, looking back every few steps. Dennis found it amusing, but his grandfather caught his smile and shot him a glare. “Remember to bring Lillian and Camila back to the estate for a visit when you have time.” “Alright, I know,” Dennis agreed readily. He then turned to Audrey and the others. “Uncle Douglas, Aunt Charlotte, I’ll have to trouble you to take Grandpa home.” “Don’t you worry about that,” Charlotte Kelly replied, not forgetting to add, “You make sure you get Camila’s family home safely.” Dennis had already made the arrangements. Once his family left, he had a car take Mrs. Molly and Mr. Morris home. He, Camila, Lillian, and her parents all got into another car. As for their friends, they all had their own cars and left on their own. Once inside the car, a welcome silence finally fell. Melissa George and Jerry Davis still seemed to be in a bit of a daze from the evening’s events. It was Jerry who finally broke the silence, asking Dennis, “Dennis, your grandfather… how did he suddenly come around? I heard he was vehemently against it before. Was there a particular reason for the change?” Melissa was just as curious. “It all feels too good to be true. I can’t help but feel a little uneasy.” Dennis had anticipated their reaction and offered a reassuring explanation. “There wasn’t any special reason. Before, he just didn’t know Camila very well, and he held some old-fashioned views, which is why he opposed our relationship. But over time, he’s gotten to know her from a different perspective and has seen how wonderful she is. Those stubborn ideas of his have gradually faded away.” Mr. and Mrs. Davis weren’t entirely convinced. They weren't fools; they could tell Dennis was downplaying his own efforts. However, they were certain that he was the reason things had gone so smoothly. Though they didn’t know the specifics of what he had done, the outcome was wonderful, and both felt a deep sense of gratitude. They had always feared that by being with someone of his status, Camila would be forced to compromise and suffer. But time and again, Dennis had proven with his actions that he was nothing like Jordan Smith. Only someone who truly cherished their daughter, who held Camila deep in his heart, would go to such lengths. “Dennis, thank you,” Jerry said, his tone suddenly solemn as he bowed his head slightly. The gesture startled Dennis, who quickly helped him sit up straight. “Mr. and Mrs. Davis, please don’t do that. It’s my honor,” he said earnestly. “I am the one who wants to be with Camila, so of course, I can’t let her be wronged. Besides, this is my family’s issue, so it was my responsibility to resolve it. If I couldn't even do that, how could you ever trust me with your precious daughter?” Listening to the young man’s words, Melissa’s expression was one of deep relief. “To be honest with you, at first, Jerry and I weren't optimistic about your relationship. That’s why we disapproved when we first arrived in Cabinda. We had a very one-sided understanding of you and misjudged you. We hope you won’t hold it against us.”
