Even back in the car, when her parents had asked, Camila sensed that Dennis was holding something back. There had to be a specific reason. Dennis didn’t deny it. “I did use a little trick,” he admitted. “Oh?” Camila’s curiosity was piqued. “What kind of trick?” Dennis hesitated. “Is it really necessary to go into the details?” Camila mimicked his earlier gesture, cupping his face in her hands and forcing him to look at her. “Yes, it is!” she said with a rare, non-negotiable tone. “I want to know!” Defeated, Dennis gave in. “It was nothing much. I just told him that I was injured during a mission a long time ago, and that I might not be able to have children of my own in the future.” His words hung in the air, and Camila froze. She had considered many possibilities, but never this one. He had told such a lie to his grandfather? For a man, that was a matter of pride and dignity, yet he had thrown it away without a second thought. As the shock wore off, Camila found it both absurd and deeply touching. A wave of emotion washed over her. He had gone this far for her. “You…” Camila’s ability to speak seemed to fail her. Nothing she could say felt appropriate. Finally, she just looked at him with a helpless fondness. “You fool, aren’t you?” Dennis’s eyes were serious as he gazed back at her. “Not at all. The facts prove my method was highly effective. I got the result I wanted. The process doesn’t matter when the objective is achieved.” He pulled her closer, his voice a low murmur in her ear. “From now on, no one can stand in our way.” Camila pressed her head against his chest, listening to the steady, powerful beat of his heart. Overwhelmed with emotion, she could only hug him tighter. After they held each other for a while, Camila’s emotions settled, and a critical question surfaced. “This injury you mentioned, what was that about? How did you even come up with a lie like that?” His grandfather was not an easy man to fool. Even if Dennis wanted to deceive him, he would have had to consider the possibility of being exposed. Then, something occurred to Camila. In their recent moments of intimacy, they hadn't used any contraception. Knowing Dennis, it was highly unlikely he would forget something so important. And given their health and the frequency of their activities, getting pregnant should have been easy. Yet, after all this time, nothing had happened. It wasn't that she had been careless. After their first time together, she’d been so thoroughly exhausted for days that she had missed the window for emergency contraception. She had worried about it, but later it proved to be a false alarm. Camila’s gaze drifted down to his waist. Could there really be a problem? After a moment of hesitation, she decided to ask directly. “Should… should I help you with a treatment? I’m a doctor, after all. I can help you with a recovery plan.” Her voice was laced with genuine concern and a desire to comfort him. Dennis’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint appearing in them. It was one thing for him to say it himself, but to be doubted by the woman he loved, to have his capabilities questioned… that was another matter entirely. Camila met his gaze and belatedly realized what she had just said. A silent alarm went off in her head. She immediately tried to pull away. “You know… it’s been a long day. I should go take off my makeup and shower. We can talk tomorrow!”
