Just then, Audrey Williams seemed to appear out of nowhere, clapping her father on the shoulder. "Dad, you just don't get it, do you? Some people need to be shown their place. They won't give up until they've tried and failed miserably on their own!" Douglas jumped, then relaxed when he saw it was his daughter. "Where did you pop up from?" Audrey grinned. "I was in the room next door the whole time. I heard everything!" She linked her arm with her grandfather's. "Grandpa, how are you feeling? A little disappointed?" The elder Mr. Williams was indeed disheartened. After a long silence, he said, "I always thought Nancy was just a bit competitive. I never imagined she had such an arrogant side to her. This is her true nature, isn't it?" He looked at his granddaughter, feeling this was what she had been trying to tell him all along. Audrey didn't deny it. "As long as you see it clearly now, that's what matters. She was never going to be part of our family anyway, so there's nothing to be sad about!" The elder Mr. Williams sighed. "I'm not sad, but I am disappointed. And I can't believe I misjudged them so badly. But getting back to the matter at hand..." He turned to his son and daughter-in-law with a worried expression. "Charlotte, letting Nancy pursue Dennis... that's not a great idea. What if Camila misunderstands?" His grandson had finally found some peace and happiness with her. Audrey smiled reassuringly. "If you're worried, just give them a heads-up! Tell them what's going on. In fact, why not have Camila go to the airport too? Their relationship is so strong. If Cynthia refuses to believe it, let her see for herself that Dennis only has eyes for one person." "So that's what you were thinking," Douglas said, finally understanding his wife's strategy. "That's why you suddenly agreed to give her a chance." Cynthia had insisted they never gave her and Dennis an opportunity to connect. Now that they had, if she still failed, she would have no grounds to complain when they officially called off the engagement. Charlotte's eyes were cold. "The engagement was only ever a private discussion between our families. Nothing was set in stone, yet they went around telling everyone. And then she had the audacity to threaten you with your reputation, Grandpa! The Lees really think highly of themselves. Dennis already announced publicly that he never acknowledged any engagement. Cynthia was just banking on Dad's guilt to push her luck. If she wants to dig her own grave, then so be it!" Real anger flashed in Charlotte's eyes. "Who does she think she is, accusing our Dennis of 'getting involved' with someone else? I gave her a chance, she couldn't take it, and then she has the nerve to throw a tantrum in front of me!" Seeing his usually elegant wife so upset, Douglas quickly rubbed her back. "Don't be angry, honey. It's not worth getting worked up over them. They were greedy, and they'll live to regret it. You offered them a generous deal, and they threw it back in your face. Now they'll learn a hard lesson and end up with nothing." Audrey chimed in, "Yes, Mom, don't be angry. My brother will teach her a thing or two about how to behave!" Soothed by her family, Charlotte's anger subsided. She nodded. "I still need to find time to apologize to Camila. She's the innocent party in all of this. Cynthia's presence is going to be a nuisance for her in the coming days." It was true; for Camila, this was a problem she didn't deserve. The elder Mr. Williams agreed. An idea struck him. "Why don't we invite her and Lillian over for dinner tomorrow night? We can explain everything then." "That's an excellent idea!" Charlotte agreed at once. "I'll cook myself!" "Perfect!" Audrey added, a practical thought occurring to her. "Camila will probably work late. Should we get a room ready for her?" "What's to get ready?" Douglas said. "She can just sleep in Ethan's room." Audrey slapped her forehead. "Oh, right! What was I thinking?" And so, the four of them left the restaurant. That evening, Audrey immediately called her brother to tell him everything, emphasizing how awful the Lee family had been. "I left a phone recording in there beforehand. I captured their expressions and everything they said!" Miles away, Dennis listened to his sister's report, his expression turning icy. After a moment, he replied, "I understand. I'll handle it." When Audrey mentioned the dinner invitation for Camila and Lillian, he added a soft instruction, "It's Camila's first time visiting. Make sure you take good care of her when you pick them up tomorrow. Don't let her feel uncomfortable." His protective tone was unmistakable. Audrey chuckled. "I know, I know. I'll make sure my sister-in-law feels right at home!"
