Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 949

Camila burst out laughing. "That sounds exactly like something he would do!" Dennis nodded, then shared a few more stories of Larry's childhood attempts to corrupt him, each one ending, unsurprisingly, with Larry taking the blame. As she listened, something didn't quite add up. "Wait a minute," she said. "He'd come to you with these plans, and you never said no?" Dennis answered with perfect seriousness, "I was quite curious about new things back then. Larry has an adventurous spirit and always liked a challenge. As his friend, I felt it was my duty to join him in his experiments." It finally clicked for Camila. He was a complete wolf in sheep's clothing. On the surface, it looked like Larry was leading him astray, but in reality, he was a more-than-willing participant. His cool, detached demeanor simply gave everyone the false impression that he was being corrupted. "You're a bad influence, Mr. Williams!" Camila said with a laugh. A flicker of amusement crossed his eyes. "I never said I was a good man," he replied, his voice a low, magnetic hum that sent a shiver down her spine. His last words were laced with a captivating charm. Camila's heart skipped a beat. The man was truly enchanting. Whether he was being noble and pure or dark and cunning, his allure was undeniable. No wonder so many people were drawn to him. They talked for a while longer until Dennis, noticing the late hour, told her to hang up and get some rest. After saying goodnight, Camila finally put her phone down. The room was meticulously clean, and as she lay down, she thought she could smell his faint, familiar scent on the pillows. Perhaps because they had spent the evening talking about his past, she felt closer to him, and the space felt incredibly comforting, as if he were right there beside her. She drifted off into a deep, peaceful sleep. When she woke the next morning, the rest of the Williams family was already up. As Camila came downstairs, Charlotte greeted her warmly. "How did you sleep? Were you comfortable?" Camila nodded with a smile. "Everything was wonderful. And Lillian? I hope she didn't keep you up." The previous night, Lillian had happily gone off to sleep with Charlotte. Charlotte beamed. "Lillian is an angel to sleep with. She didn't wake up once, and she barely moved. Oh, the more I see of that child, the more I adore her!" Camila laughed. "We only just got her into that routine. Before, bedtime was like a wrestling match. She'd spin from one end of the bed to the other, and I'd have to get up constantly to cover her again." Charlotte waved a dismissive hand. "That's perfectly normal. Audrey was the same way, if not worse. She used to fall out of bed almost every night! I managed to survive that!" Hearing her embarrassing childhood stories being broadcast, Audrey protested, grabbing her mother's arm. "Why are you telling my secrets?" Charlotte just laughed. "Am I not telling the truth? One time I wasn't quick enough, and you rolled right onto the floor. Your father and I nearly had a heart attack." Audrey's face turned bright red as she covered it with her hands. "Oh, stop! It's so embarrassing!" The whole family laughed at their antics. The conversation finally ended when the butler announced that breakfast was ready. After the meal, both Charlotte and the elder Mr. Williams vied for the chance to take Lillian to school.
