Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 951

Dennis wasn't disappointed when he read Camila's message. He knew her work could be unpredictable, and he wouldn't want her rushing to the airport after working late anyway. He simply replied, "Focus on your work. I'll come pick you up later." After putting his phone away, he headed for the exit, only to be stopped in his tracks by the sudden appearance of Cynthia Lee. She was impeccably dressed today, her makeup flawless and a light, elegant perfume scenting the air. She smiled at Dennis, her expression soft and alluring. "Dennis, welcome home! I came especially to pick you up. The car is waiting outside." Cynthia acted perfectly natural, as if she had forgotten his previous coldness toward her. Dennis, for his part, remained as detached as ever. "That won't be necessary, Ms. Lee. The Williams family car is already waiting for me." His rejection didn't seem to faze her. Her smile remained gentle. "Is that so? Well, I can ride with you then. You must be tired after your trip. Would you like to go home and rest, or head to the Smith Group? If you're not busy, perhaps we could get some afternoon tea?" Without breaking his stride, Dennis continued toward the exit with Aaron and his bodyguards. He politely but firmly declined her offer. "I'm sorry, but I'm on my way to pick up my girlfriend. I don't have time to accept your invitation, Ms. Lee." The word 'girlfriend' was like a slap in the face. Cynthia's carefully constructed composure began to crack. She faltered for a moment before hurrying to catch up with him, a hint of disbelief in her voice. "Wait, Dennis, didn't Charlotte tell you? She said she wanted to give us a chance to spend time together. Your afternoon is supposed to be for me. How can you go pick up that woman?!" Her indignant question received no reply from him. At the mention of 'that woman,' a flicker of ice crossed Dennis's deep-set eyes, and a look of impatience flashed across his face. He seemed to have lost all desire to speak to her. Seeing this, Aaron stepped in. "Ms. Lee, I believe you've misunderstood Mrs. Smith's intentions. It's true she offered you an opportunity, but that was contingent on you being able to win Mr. Williams over yourself. It does not mean Mr. Williams is required to cooperate. His time is his own to manage, and I'm afraid you are not part of his schedule. We appreciate you coming all this way, but please, you should head home now." With that, Aaron turned his back on her and followed Dennis to the car. He couldn't help but wonder what on earth Cynthia was thinking. Mr. Williams was already in love. Why would he go for tea with another woman? If Ms. Davis got upset, Mr. Williams would be the one to suffer. The family's Rolls-Royce was waiting at the curb. As the group approached, Aaron opened the rear door for Dennis. Just as he was about to get in, Cynthia rushed forward and grabbed the door, her voice sharp with anger. "This isn't fair!" Dennis frowned, his gaze cold. "What isn't fair?" Cynthia looked utterly aggrieved, her eyes turning red. She bit her lip as she looked at him. "You were supposed to give me a chance. Why won't you cooperate?" Her tears had no effect on him. His expression remained impassive, his voice devoid of emotion. "My time is valuable. I have no intention of wasting it on people who don't matter." The phrase 'people who don't matter' was a dagger to her heart. "What do you mean, 'don't matter'?" she retorted, her voice trembling with indignation. "Dennis Williams, I was supposed to be your fiancée! How can you say I don't matter?" Dennis's eyes narrowed, his gaze chillingly empty. "I have never acknowledged any fiancée. Cynthia, some things are best left unsaid. If you repeat them too often, you might start to believe them yourself. I have no feelings for you. I never have, I don't now, and I never will. This isn't new information. I hope you can accept reality and give up." "No... I won't!" Cynthia's face was a mask of stubbornness as she tried to reason with him. "Dennis, we just never had enough time together before. That's how Camila Davis was able to sneak in. She got between us! A woman like that is a conniving social climber who will do anything to get ahead. Don't let her fool you! You and I are the only ones who are truly right for each other. We were childhood friends, our families are equals. You should be with me! Just give me a chance, let me show you. In terms of looks, education, or any other quality, I am far superior to Camila Davis. I will be a much better Mrs. Williams. You won't be ashamed to be seen with me. No one will mock you for picking up someone else's used goods—" "Enough!" Dennis's voice was like ice, his eyes burning with a cold fire. Hearing her vicious slander against Camila, an aura of pure, intimidating fury radiated from him.
