“And I would never force him to do something he doesn’t want to do. Perhaps… as someone who’s been through it, I can offer you some advice. It’s better not to force matters of the heart. Otherwise, you might cause a tragedy you can’t even imagine. With your background, Ms. Lee, you could have anyone you want. Why insist on forcing someone who isn’t interested?”
Cynthia had never been one to listen to advice, especially not from Camila. Her expression turned ugly, her eyes blazing with fury. “Are you mocking me?”
Camila was taken aback. That wasn't her intention at all; she was genuinely trying to warn her. Her own marriage to Jordan Smith, while not entirely forced, was something she had clung to with misplaced hope, and it had ended with her being utterly broken. As a fellow woman, she had hoped Cynthia might know when to back down. But from her reaction, it was clear she wouldn't take the advice to heart.
Camila shook her head, not bothering to explain further. “Think whatever you want, Ms. Lee. However, as his official girlfriend, there are a few things you said that I’d like to return to you. I hope you can be a bit more sensible and stop harassing my boyfriend. Your actions are causing problems for him, and they’re causing problems for me. After all… I can be quite possessive. And I don’t like it when other people covet what’s mine!”
With that, Camila took Dennis’s hand, ready to get in the car and leave.
Infuriated, Cynthia lunged forward. “Stop right there!”
She tried to grab Camila, but Aaron swiftly stepped in her way. “Ms. Lee, please have some self-respect!” he said in a low, firm voice.
Furious and desperate, Cynthia lost control. “You worthless servant, this is no place for you to speak! Get out of my way!”
Of course, Aaron didn't move. What if Cynthia completely snapped? As a competent assistant, it was his job to intervene.
Thwarted, Cynthia could only glare at Camila, her voice seething with rage. “Camila Davis, what right do you have to warn me? You’re the mistress who interfered with my engagement to Dennis! And now you dare demand that I don’t covet your man? Who do you think you are? Get out of the way, you’re not getting in that car!”
She was so agitated she looked ready to pounce, her composure shattered by the affection she had witnessed between them.
Seeing this, Dennis immediately pulled Camila into his arms, shielding her. His long, narrow eyes were as sharp as daggers, radiating a terrifying chill. “Don't want your hands anymore? Touch her and see what happens.”
The look in his eyes left no doubt that if she dared to take another step, he would cripple her.
Cynthia froze, feeling as if she had been plunged into an icy abyss, a cold dread washing over her from head to toe. She finally saw him clearly—the look in his eyes as he stared at her. It was a bone-chilling coldness, a ruthless indifference, and an alarmingly deep-seated annoyance. There was none of the warmth he showed for his family, let alone the tenderness he reserved for Camila.
