The Alpha Of The Shadow Pack And His Mute Luna (by Beatrice Putnam) novel Chapter 147

Chapter 147

Alfreds POV

After Vanessa woke up, she got out of bed. My jaw nearly hit the floor. What was she thinking? She rushed to Junior’s room, ignoring my calls to get back in bed. Even my alpha voice had no effect-she was determined. Where did this stubbornness come from? Was it Monica’s kiss? Vanessa was furious about the hospital stay. She had wanted to wake up at home, and she was right, but I needed to ensure she was OK. I’m not a doctor. She was halfway to Junior’s room before I caught her. I picked her up, carried her in, sat her in a chair, and brought Junior to her. We spent a few hours with him before my parents arrived.

We excused ourselves and went home. I carried her because I worried about her stitches, though her leg seemed to be healing quickly. I helped her into pajamas, and she napped. Hours later, she woke up, got ready for a jog, and the doctor had cleared her for activity. I wished he hadn’t. I wanted her safe in bed or at least inside. Monica was still a threat. At the indoor gym, she ran the track, looking beautiful. Watching her, I couldn’t help but desire her, but I wasn’t sure if she was still mad about Monica.

I caught up to her and said I’d never loved Monica-she was just a distraction. We ran a few more laps, went home, changed, and set up the nursery. It looked beautiful; she did a fantastic job. I was surprised at how many clothes I bought for Junior-the dresser overflowed. She set aside ones she thought too small, planning to try them on Junior later. I admired her work ethic-with little sleep, she worked hard. Mac and the other pack members searched for Monica. I noticed her stomach growl.

We were both hungry, so we went out for pizza. After ordering one, Vanessa insisted on a second. While waiting, a pack of wolves attacked. Vanessa shifted to Sasha, and I to Leon. After a brief fight, most attackers were dead. One young wolf needed serious care;

whoever sent them doomed these kids. My blood boiled at the thought. We shifted back, naked. Vanessa looked striking-bloody and

beautiful. The stares made me jealous, so I stepped in front of her.

Someone noticed my irritation and brought Vanessa a coat, relieving me. I’ll carry a bag of clothes from now on. Shifting is our way, but I

want her covered. I wondered whether my father got jealous of my mother after she would shift and stood in front of people naked. This

mate bond is confusing. I paid for the pizzas. At home, we cleaned up, ate, and slept. We woke at six, and Vanessa prepared for another

workout. I wondered what she planned to do today.

“Hey, beautiful, what do you have planned today?”

Stacey and I are going to practice hand-to-hand combat.”

Hand-to-hand combat? Was that safe for Vanessa? Concerned, I planned to secretly watch to ensure her safety. Stacey could be

overzealous, and though Vanessa was improving, she couldn’t yet match Stacey’s strength. Maybe I was overprotective. I’d see for myself

how much Vanessa had improved-once, she couldn’t throw a punch. Now she could run and fight a strong white wolf. I needed to ask the

priestess about Vanessa’s powers and her training. It’s a shame she spent her youth being mistreated instead of learning her abilities.

Her father was never worthy of the alpha title. I was glad he was gone; if not, I would have killed him again. I got changed and went to the Karate Dojo. Quietly, I picked a corner and dabbed on some cologne, testing to see if Vanessa could sense me. She seemed unaware, so I watched as Stacey coached her stance and punches. Vanessa used her hips for power; her form was sloppy, but expected for a beginner, Stacey demonstrated white belt kicks. I was impressed-Vanessa hit the bag hard enough to make it shake.

I watched as they moved to the mat. Stacey threw Vanessa, using her hips to catch her off guard. When Vanessa hit the floor, I felt her

pain but stayed back. Then Vanessa threw Stacey. They were doing well, so I left. Vanessa would be sore later. I went to the essential oil shop for massage and bath oils, then to the café for coffee.

After getting a cup of coffee, I went to the gun factory to check on the progress of the building and the assembly of the guns. Everything seemed in order here. I then met with the captain of the guard and the general. They had a batch of recruits fresh out of the academy sign up for border patrol. They showed where everyone was stationed and the walls under construction. I wanted to test out the recruits to see if they were worthy of being on border patrol. I rubbed a rogue scent on myself. Chris and Tj did the same. It was to hide our scent. Even people can tell who I am by my scent. I used cologne to mask it. We then snuck out of the pack house and went to the woods. The first recruit was sitting down and on his phone. However, he got a whiff of my scent. He immediately put his phone down and looked around. I could see him partially shift to use his werewolf hearing. He then disappeared around the trees, and he was standing over me in

a heartbeat. He was outstanding.

After telling him it was me, he backed down, and I told him not to inform anyone else. He then went back to his post. The second recruit was walking back and forth, covering his tracks. Very impressive. They do teach that in the academy, but not many of the recruits follow it. I accidentally stepped on a twig, and he started looking around. However, Chris was behind him and already had him in a bear hug. I

came out of the trees. He had kicked Chris in the groin and temporarily had him on the ground, then he was on the ground. He was
