The Alpha Of The Shadow Pack And His Mute Luna (by Beatrice Putnam) novel Chapter 149

Chapter 149

Alfred’s Perspective

After completing the evaluations of the new recruits, I reassigned several of the less experienced ones to the packlands rather than border patrol. The borders demanded only the most skilled and vigilant warriors. Satisfied with the decisions, I turned my attention to the progress on the wall. It was coming together well, now stretching halfway around the packlands. This was a significant achievement, considering how long we’d been laboring on it. I had instructed Leroy to cast a protective spell around the packlands, creating a magical shield as an additional defense. Unfortunately, the shield was temporary and would deactivate periodically, requiring reactivation. Our goal was to finish the physical wall before the shield’s protection waned again. After Junior’s welcome home celebration tonight, I planned to discuss the next steps with Leroy. Vanessa would likely be exhausted and eager to spend quality time with Junior, which I completely understood. She needed every moment with him she could get. I, too, would cherish the time I could steal away with my son, though my responsibilities as alpha often demanded my attention. With these thoughts, I made my way back home.

Upon arriving, I found Vanessa pacing anxiously in the living room. My tardiness was evident as the first guests began to trickle in. Cars lined the driveway, and the bodyguard vehicles were parked strategically apart in the lot. Junior was about to receive a full escort from the hospital to the packlands. Chris had just brought the car up front, carrying a car seat. Vanessa had thoughtfully purchased matching outfits for all of us. Although such coordinated attire wasn’t my usual style, I chose to wear mine to make her happy, hoping to surprise her despite her earlier insistence that I didn’t need to. Expecting a scolding for my lateness, I braced myself, but instead, she greeted me with a kiss and teased that I smelled bad. I laughed and told her it was time to get the party started, though her confused look made me realize I’d need to explain that later. For now, I headed to shower and change, quickly slipping into the matching outfit.

When I stepped back into the room, Vanessa’s expression was one of shock, her eyes glistening as if tears threatened to spill. It was clear that the tears running down her cheeks were tears of joy. I felt a warm satisfaction knowing I had made her happy. Together, we walked to the car, a caravan of vehicles following closely behind. Upon arriving at the hospital, Vanessa fed and changed Junior with tender care. As we exited, I lifted Junior high for all the pack members to see. They bowed in reverence, acknowledging him as the future alpha and prince. Their respect filled me with pride; this pack was truly remarkable. Balancing my royal duties with my role as alpha was often a challenge, but moments like this made it worthwhile. We settled Junior securely in the car seat, Vanessa on one side, and me on the other, before heading back to the pack house.

I had chosen the pack house for the party since it offered more space than our home. My parents were still at the house but would join us soon. Stacey was already there, and she had mentioned she had an announcement to make. I had no idea what it could be, though she hinted at a double ceremony and a surprise. I hoped her news wouldn’t overshadow Junior’s special day; tonight was meant to celebrate him and no one else. I was the first to exit the car and greeted the gathering crowd as Vanessa carefully lifted Junior out of his seat. Supporting her as she cradled our son, we entered the pack house to cheers and applause. The atmosphere was electric with joy and significance. At the center of the main room, two chairs had been placed for Vanessa and me, with a cradle beside her chair for Junior. Behind the cradle, the nannies stood ready to meet their prince.

I had already informed the nannies that Vanessa would be Junior’s primary caregiver, and they would take charge only when Vanessa was occupied with training or important business. They understood their roles well. These women were not only skilled warriors but also trained caregivers, a common dual role among the pack’s females. They saw it as their duty to support young mothers and protect the pups they cared for until they found their mates. Everything was unfolding perfectly. Vanessa looked utterly natural as a mother, sitting gracefully with Junior in her arms, feeding him while chatting with some of the pack members, a radiant smile lighting up her face.

Suddenly, a disturbance caught my attention on the other side of the room. I moved toward the noise and was shocked to find two young werewolves engaged in a heated fight. Such behavior was unacceptable. I grabbed them both by their hair and dragged them outside.

“What the hell is going on here?” I demanded.

“Alpha, forgive us,” one stammered. “We’re fighting over your sister.”

My sister? Before I could respond, Stacey hurried out of the building.

“Alfred, these are my mates,” she announced.

“Your mates?” I echoed, stunned.

She had two mates. That was only possible if one was a second-chance mate. Who would have thought both her mates would be from my pack? That was almost unheard of. Now, I was faced with a complicated problem. The two would continue to fight over her until she chose one. They were twins, which explained the situation. Stacey was mated to twins. I would have to consult the priestess about this unusual circumstance.

“You two will stop fighting immediately,” I commanded.
